To see or delete your iPhone’s Significant Locations, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations. Your iPhone may instead show Significant Locations & Routes. Tap Clear History to delete this history; Apple says the change applies to devices signed in to the same Apple Account.
How to see Significant Locations on iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Privacy & Security, then Location Services.
- Scroll down and tap System Services.
- Tap Significant Locations or Significant Locations & Routes, whichever label appears on your iPhone.
Apple’s support instructions place the setting in System Services, but the label can differ across software versions. Follow the wording displayed on your device.

How to clear Significant Locations
- Open the Significant Locations screen using the steps above.
- Tap Clear History and confirm if prompted.
Apple says this removes the saved Significant Locations from devices signed in to the same Apple Account. It does not mean every location record or every Maps history is cleared.
What Significant Locations does—and what Apple says about privacy
Apple says Significant Locations helps provide personalized services, including predictive traffic routing in Maps. Apple states: “Your significant locations are end-to-end encrypted and can’t be read by Apple.” That statement is specifically about Significant Locations; it should not be generalized to every location signal, app, or Maps history.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Location Services permissions for individual apps are separate. Apple says apps must request permission, and you can review or change their access in Settings. See Apple’s overview of privacy and Location Services.
How to stop Significant Locations from being recorded
On the same System Services screen, switch off Significant Locations & Routes. This disables that feature; it is not the same as switching off all Location Services.

Turning off Location Services globally is a broader change. Apple says it can limit features in Apple and third-party apps. Review the effect before changing the global setting: Apple’s Location Services guidance.
Significant Locations versus Maps Visited Places
Maps Visited Places is separate. Clearing Significant Locations in iPhone Settings does not clear the Visited Places history. Maps has its own controls, and availability varies by country or region.

| Action | Where | What it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Clear Significant Locations | Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations (or Significant Locations & Routes) | Significant Locations history across devices signed in to the same Apple Account, according to Apple. |
| Turn off Significant Locations & Routes | The same System Services area | Stops use of this feature; it does not switch off all Location Services. |
| Turn off all Location Services | Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services | A broader setting that can limit Apple and third-party app features. |
| Manage or clear Visited Places | Maps > Places > Visited Places | A separate Maps history with its own removal and retention controls. |
In Maps, Apple documents controls to remove individual Visited Places or clear that history. Its retention options are 3 months, 1 year, or Forever. Those choices apply to Visited Places, not Significant Locations. See Apple’s Visited Places instructions and Apple’s guide to keeping Maps location history private.
