A game leak or suspicious Rockstar-themed message does not prove that your account was accessed. If you clicked a link, entered your password, reused a password that may have been exposed, or noticed an unfamiliar sign-in or account change, act promptly: secure the email account linked to Rockstar, change any exposed password through Rockstar’s official account flow, review the account, and enable 2-step verification.
What to do first after a Rockstar phishing attempt
- Stop interacting with the message. Do not click its links, open attachments, or provide a password or verification code. Check the sender address and destination independently; a message that looks official can still be phishing. Rockstar also warns against third-party services that ask for account credentials. See Rockstar’s account-protection guidance.
- Secure the email account linked to Rockstar. If you can access it, change its password if necessary and turn on the email provider’s 2-step verification. Rockstar recommends using an email account you regularly access and protecting it, because losing that inbox can complicate account recovery. Its account email guidance explains the importance of keeping the linked address accessible.
- Change a password that may be exposed or reused. Open Rockstar’s official site or account flow yourself and use password recovery there; do not use a link from the suspicious message. Choose a password you do not use elsewhere. Rockstar advises against sharing or reusing your account password.
- Review the account for changes you did not make. Check whether the linked email changed, whether unfamiliar third-party connections appear, and whether you see sign-ins or devices you do not recognize. Report suspicious activity to Rockstar Support.
- Turn on Rockstar 2-step verification once access is secure. Follow the official Rockstar 2-step verification setup guide.
What if someone changed your Rockstar email?
Rockstar says an email-address change triggers an account-specific recovery link sent to the previous email address. If you still control that inbox, search for Rockstar’s change notice—including spam and other filtered folders—and use the link to roll back the change. Rockstar describes this link as reversing the account change in its email-change recovery instructions.
If you cannot access the previous inbox, first work with that email provider to recover the mailbox. If you still need Rockstar’s help, submit a Support request. For a request to revert the account to a previous email, Rockstar says to submit it from an email address that was previously linked to the account. Recovery depends on the account state and available access; no single route is guaranteed for every case.

How to turn on Rockstar 2-step verification
Rockstar’s current setup guide supports an authenticator app on a mobile device or in a browser. The guide requires you to verify the account’s associated email before setup, then use the account’s security settings to complete the process with the authenticator code and Rockstar password.

- Use Rockstar’s official account page and setup guide, rather than links in an unsolicited message.
- Keep the QR code, PIN, and verification codes private. Do not send them to anyone claiming to be support.
- If you cannot complete verification because you no longer have access to the associated email, use Rockstar’s guidance for lost email access during 2-step verification.
