Use a screenshot for a visual image of a page; use print or Save as PDF for a paginated document. On a computer, Edge and Firefox provide built-in full-page capture, Chrome DevTools can capture a full-size image, and Chrome or Edge print preview can create a PDF or send pages to a printer. The right method depends on whether you need the visible screen, the entire scrolling page, a selected region, or a paper-ready document.
Choose the output before you capture

Inspect the image or print preview before relying on it. Long pages can contain lazy-loaded images, sticky navigation, cookie notices, or layouts that break differently in an image and a PDF.
How to take a full-page screenshot in Microsoft Edge
Edge’s Screenshot feature can “capture an entire webpage in a single screenshot—even the parts you would have to scroll to see,” according to Microsoft’s feature description.
- Open the webpage in Edge.
- Invoke Screenshot from the right-click menu, the Edge menu, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Capture full page for the complete scrolling page, or drag an area for a focused capture.
- Use the available markup tools if needed, then choose to copy or save the result.
Edge notes that Screenshot behavior can vary by device type, market, and browser version. If the command or labels differ, update Edge or check the current menu on your device.
How to screenshot an entire webpage in Firefox
Firefox distinguishes clearly between the visible viewport and the whole page. Mozilla describes the feature as capturing visible parts or “even full web pages” and allowing images to be copied or saved.

- Open the page and right-click an empty area.
- Select Take Screenshot. On Windows or Linux, you can also press Ctrl+Shift+S; on Mac, press Command+Shift+S.
- Choose Save full page for the complete page or Save visible for the current screen.
- Alternatively, select a region or let Firefox highlight a page element, then download the image or copy it to the clipboard.
Technical Firefox capture with Developer Tools
For repeatable or element-specific work, Firefox’s Web Console supports the :screenshot helper. The --fullpage option captures the entire page; you can also specify a delay, device-pixel ratio, filename, and CSS selector for one element. This route is better for technical users than for a one-off capture because it requires knowing the console command syntax.

Chrome’s full-page image workflow is in DevTools rather than a normal toolbar button.

- Turn on device mode with the phone/tablet icon, or press Ctrl+Shift+M ( Command+Shift+M on Mac).
- Open the DevTools capture menu and choose Capture a full size screenshot.
- Save the generated image and verify that content outside the original viewport appears.
Chrome may render responsive layouts differently after device mode is enabled. Set the desired viewport dimensions before capturing, especially when documenting a mobile layout.

How to take a full-page screenshot on an iPhone
Apple’s iPhone User Guide documents screenshots that extend beyond the screen and uses an entire Safari webpage as its example. After taking a screenshot, use the screenshot preview’s full-page option when it is offered, then save or share the resulting document. The exact controls can vary by iOS release and app, so check the current iPhone User Guide if the full-page control is absent.
How to print a webpage or save it as a PDF in Chrome
- Open the page in Chrome on your computer.
- Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac.
- Choose a physical printer for paper, or choose Save as PDF when you need a file.
- Set the page range, layout, paper size, margins, scale, and other options shown by your system.
- Review the preview for clipped text, blank pages, missing images, or awkward page breaks.
- Select Print or Save.
Chrome’s printer setup follows the printer manufacturer’s instructions. You do not need to own a printer to use this workflow: Save as PDF produces a file you can send or print elsewhere.
How to print a webpage in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page and choose Print from the Edge menu, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on Mac.
- Set the page range and margins, and decide whether headers and footers should appear.
- Turn on Background graphics if colors or background imagery are missing from the preview. Microsoft Support notes that you can include background graphics when printing a web page.
- Inspect page breaks and scaling, then print or select a PDF destination if offered by your system.
Reduce clutter with Immersive Reader
When a page is difficult to print because of navigation, advertising, or surrounding controls, try opening it in Edge’s Immersive Reader and then printing the simplified view. Microsoft says Immersive Reader is not available on every site, so treat it as an option rather than a guaranteed conversion.

Screenshot or PDF: which should you use?
Choose a screenshot when appearance matters
- You need a visual record for a bug report, design review, or presentation.
- You need one image to paste into another application.
- You want a selected region or element rather than a document with page breaks.
Choose a PDF when document handling matters
- You need a paginated file for sharing, archiving, or later printing.
- You want page ranges, margins, paper size, or landscape orientation.
- You need text and links to remain useful in a document workflow rather than in a flat image.
A screenshot and a PDF are not interchangeable. A screenshot preserves a visual canvas; print layout can reflow content, split sections, and omit backgrounds unless the relevant option is enabled.

Only the visible screen was saved
Choose Capture full page in Edge, Save full page in Firefox, or Chrome DevTools’ Capture a full size screenshot. A normal operating-system screenshot captures only the current viewport.
The print preview loses colors or images
In Edge, enable Background graphics and preview again. Some sites intentionally omit decorative backgrounds from print stylesheets, so a screenshot may be the more faithful record.

Reload the page, wait for dynamic content, and check the browser version and device. For scripted captures, add a selector, delay, or network-idle wait; verify authentication, cookies, headers, and geolocation requirements. A bot check or failed load may prevent any useful image.

- Confirm that the capture includes below-the-fold content when a full page is required.
- Check lazy-loaded images, embedded media, and fonts.
- Review page breaks, margins, headers, and footers in print preview.
- Verify that sensitive information is not exposed in the image or PDF.
- For repeat jobs, standardize viewport, scale, timezone, and wait conditions.
