Short answer: you should not scrape LinkedIn profiles, company pages, or job listings with bots, browser extensions, crawlers, or similar software. LinkedIn’s User Agreement prohibits scraping or copying its Services and bypassing access controls or use limits. LinkedIn says automated scraping can result in restrictions or account closure. In 2026, the defensible approach is to use an approved LinkedIn API program for a specifically permitted purpose, obtain any required consent, and follow the program’s storage, display, export, and deletion rules.
This guide explains the boundary for profiles, companies, and jobs; how authorized API access differs from website scraping; what to check before building an integration; and how to capture pages you are authorized to access without operating a LinkedIn scraper.
What LinkedIn’s rules say about scraping
LinkedIn’s User Agreement, Section 8.2, prohibits developing, supporting, or using “software, devices, scripts, robots or any other means or processes (such as crawlers, browser plugins and add-ons or any other technology) to scrape or copy the Services, including profiles and other data from the Services.” The same section prohibits circumventing access controls or use limits.
LinkedIn’s Recruiter Help guidance separately says third-party crawlers, bots, browser plug-ins, and browser extensions that scrape, modify the appearance of, or automate activity on LinkedIn are not permitted. LinkedIn warns that members can face account restrictions or shutdown, and an automated tool can stop working without notice.

These are contractual platform rules and LinkedIn’s stated enforcement position. They are not a universal legal ruling about every public webpage in every country. Privacy, database, employment, computer misuse, and consumer-protection laws can add requirements that vary by jurisdiction. Obtain advice for your specific use case instead of assuming that publicly visible data is free to collect or reuse.
What counts as scraping
- Running a crawler that visits LinkedIn profile, company, or job URLs and extracts fields.
- Using a browser extension or plug-in to copy data from pages or automate browsing.
- Using headless browsers, scripts, or rotating accounts to evade rate limits, login controls, CAPTCHAs, or other restrictions.
- Copying LinkedIn data into a prospecting, recruiting, advertising, enrichment, or resale database without an approved basis.
Changing the user agent, adding delays, or limiting requests does not turn a prohibited activity into an authorized one. Nor does using a third-party scraping service on your behalf.
Profiles, companies, and jobs are separate use cases
Do not assume one permission or API scope covers all LinkedIn data. Individual profiles, Pages and company information, and job listings can have different eligibility, consent, display, retention, and export conditions.
Member profiles
Profile data is personal data. An approved application may still need legally valid member consent before storing profile information. LinkedIn’s API Terms also restrict when stored profile data may be refreshed; the terms describe refreshing certain profile data when the member is using the application. Copying profiles into a permanent sales or recruiting list without satisfying those conditions is not an authorized integration.
Company Pages and organization data
LinkedIn’s Marketing API member data is intended for managing LinkedIn Pages or Profiles in an application. That purpose is narrower than building an unrestricted company or prospect database. Check the exact Page-management product, scopes, fields, display requirements, retention period, and deletion triggers before implementation.
Jobs
Job listings are not automatically covered by a profile or Page permission. Verify the current job-related product and endpoint, its eligibility criteria, permitted purpose, fields, and redistribution rules. The available official material does not establish a universal endpoint that allows downloading all LinkedIn jobs for arbitrary recruiting or aggregation.

Use an approved API instead of scraping
LinkedIn provides API programs for eligible applications, but registering or authenticating an application does not grant unrestricted access or reuse rights. API Terms and program-specific terms control what you may request, show, store, export, combine, and delete.

Eligibility and purpose
- Identify the exact LinkedIn program that matches your product, such as Page/Profile management or another documented partner program.
- Confirm that your organization and application qualify. Approval is not implied by being able to create an app or obtain credentials.
- Write down the business purpose in plain language and compare it with the program’s allowed use cases. Sales prospecting, advertising audiences, recruiting databases, and data resale may be restricted or disallowed.
Scopes and consent
- Request only the scopes your approved feature needs.
- Present LinkedIn’s authorization screen and obtain any member consent required by the terms and applicable privacy law.
- Do not reuse a token, profile response, or Page response for a different product purpose without checking the relevant terms.
Storage, display, and deletion
API content generally cannot be captured, copied, cached, or stored except as expressly permitted. Build controls for retention limits, member-requested deletion, token revocation, and LinkedIn’s deletion signals. If a member disconnects your app or LinkedIn requires removal, your system should delete the affected data from databases, caches, exports, backups, and search indexes according to the applicable rules.
Export and combining datasets
Do not merge LinkedIn API data with purchased lists, public-web datasets, or other identity graphs unless the applicable program terms expressly allow it. Marketing API guidance places restrictions on prospecting, export, audience creation, combining datasets, and retention. Treat “we can technically join these records” as different from “we are permitted to do so.”
A compliance-first implementation workflow
- Define the feature. Specify whether you need a member’s profile inside a logged-in application, management of a Page, a job workflow, or something else. Avoid the vague goal “collect LinkedIn data.”
- Locate the current official product. Read LinkedIn’s developer documentation, API Terms, and the terms for the particular program and endpoint. Confirm supported versions and required review or partner approval.
- Map every field. For each requested field, record why it is needed, where it will be displayed, how long it may be retained, and what deletion event removes it.
- Implement OAuth and consent. Use the documented authorization flow, protect client secrets, validate state and redirect URIs, and store tokens securely. Never ask users to provide LinkedIn passwords.
- Enforce purpose boundaries. Add code-level checks so data obtained for Page management cannot silently flow into prospecting, advertising, recruiting, or resale features.
- Minimize retention. Keep only permitted fields, avoid raw response archives, set automatic expiration, and make deletion auditable.
- Test failure paths. Handle revoked consent, expired tokens, denied scopes, rate limits, deleted members, unavailable fields, and version sunset notices.
- Review before launch. Have privacy, security, and legal owners approve the data map and user-facing disclosures for the countries in which you operate.
2026 version and enforcement considerations
LinkedIn’s Marketing API documentation states that Marketing Version 202510 is scheduled to sunset on October 15, 2026. Treat that as a version notice, not a promise that another version has identical fields or permissions. Confirm the currently supported version immediately before deployment and schedule migration work before the sunset date.
LinkedIn announced on January 24, 2025, that it had begun legal proceedings against Proxycurl as part of its stated effort to enforce its User Agreement against scraping and fake accounts. That announcement is LinkedIn’s position; it is not, by itself, an independent court finding of liability. The practical lesson is that a vendor’s claim that it can provide LinkedIn data does not establish that your use is authorized.

Headless browser automation
Playwright, Selenium, and similar tools can render a page, but technical capability is not permission. Automating logged-in navigation, solving or bypassing CAPTCHAs, rotating accounts, or evading controls increases both account and compliance risk.

“Public profile” arguments
A page being visible to a visitor does not waive LinkedIn’s contractual restrictions, privacy obligations, or limits on copying and reuse. Public visibility and authorization are separate questions.
Third-party data vendors
A vendor may describe its dataset as compliant, licensed, or publicly sourced. You still need to verify the provenance, your intended purpose, the vendor’s contractual rights, and whether onward use is permitted. Do not treat an API endpoint, a successful response, or an invoice as proof of LinkedIn authorization.
Capturing an authorized page without building a scraper
If your team owns the page, has permission from its operator, or needs a visual record for an approved workflow, capture the rendered page rather than extracting LinkedIn data into a database. Keep authentication, consent, retention, and access controls appropriate to the page and your purpose.

- Open the authorized page in a normal browser session.
- Confirm that your organization has permission to capture and retain the image or PDF.
- Use the browser’s print or screenshot command, select the required viewport or full-page option, and save the file in an access-controlled location.
- Record the capture date, URL, purpose, and retention deadline. Delete the file when the permission or business need ends.
This method creates a visual artifact; it does not grant permission to copy profile fields, contact details, job data, or other LinkedIn content into a separate dataset.

Troubleshooting an authorized integration
“Not authorized” or missing scope
The application may not be approved for that product, the member denied consent, or the token lacks the required scope. Recheck the exact program and authorization request; do not escalate by scraping the website.
Fields are empty or unavailable
Fields can depend on the endpoint, member consent, privacy settings, product approval, and API version. Treat an absent field as unavailable and design a fallback rather than attempting to obtain it from HTML.
Requests suddenly fail
Check token expiry, revocation, rate limits, service status, and version lifecycle notices. Log response codes without storing unnecessary personal data, use documented retry guidance, and verify that the endpoint has not been sunset.
