To find channels on an LG Smart TV, connect your antenna or direct cable feed to the TV, open the channel setup menu, and run the automatic scan until it finishes. The command is usually called Auto Channel, Auto Tuning, or EZ Scan, depending on the model and webOS generation. A scan only collects channels that are already reaching the TV through a connected input. If channels are still missing after a clean scan, the problem is almost always the signal or the source, not the TV’s menu.
Check the signal source before you scan
A channel scan tunes the TV to whatever broadcast or cable signal it can receive on its antenna or cable input. It cannot create a signal that the antenna or cable feed does not deliver. Before you start, confirm three things:

- Where the signal comes from. An over-the-air antenna, a direct cable feed plugged into the TV’s antenna/RF input, or a set-top box connected by HDMI or another video cable each behave differently. A scan only tunes the first two. Channels that come through a set-top box are controlled by that box, so the TV scan will not change them.
- Which input the TV is using. If the TV asks you to choose an antenna or cable source during setup, pick the one that matches your physical connection.
- Whether the connection is firm. A loose coaxial plug is one of the most common reasons a scan finds fewer channels than expected.
If you do not have an antenna connected to the TV and want over-the-air channels, a digital TV antenna is the usual way to add them. An indoor TV antenna can work in some locations, but reception depends on distance from broadcast towers and local obstructions, and no antenna guarantees a particular channel count.

LG’s menus vary by model and software generation. The steps below follow the general webOS route in LG’s current missing-channels guidance. If your screen labels differ, follow the labels you see and check your model’s manual.

Menu names and paths by model generation
The scan command has different names and locations across LG’s product generations. Use this table to find the right path, then confirm the exact label on your own screen.
| Model or software generation | Scan command name | Menu path shown in LG material |
|---|---|---|
| webOS, general instructions (LG USA Support, July 12, 2026) | Auto Channel | Home → Settings → Advanced Settings → Channels → Channel Settings → Auto Channel → Start |
| Newer model-era guides | Channel Tuning or Auto Tuning | Settings → All Settings → General → Channels → Channel Tuning |
| Models covered by LG owner’s manuals 22LG30 and 32LC50CB | EZ Scan or Auto Tuning | Path not stated in the manual extract; use the Channels or Tuning section of your manual |
Because the labels are model-specific, a route that works on one LG set may not match another. If you cannot find the scan command, search your model’s manual for “auto tuning” or “EZ Scan” rather than guessing.

LG’s support guidance for missing live TV channels, dated July 12, 2026, lists several causes: channels that were deleted from the TV’s list, channels that moved to a new frequency, a cable lineup that was reorganized by the provider, and weak or absent signal. A scan fixes the first three. Signal problems need a different approach.

Run the scan again after confirming that the correct antenna or cable feed is connected. LG’s owner’s manual for the 22LG30 puts it directly: “Run EZ Scan again after any Antenna/Cable connection changes.” The same applies after your provider has changed its channel lineup.

- Compatibility and Usage Tips: Not suitable for older analog televisions; supports smart TVs and digital TVs. For optimal signal reception, try placing the antenna near a window or in other locations, and test both vertical and horizontal orientations.
- Easy to Install: Plug the coaxial cable from your digital indoor HDTV antenna into the ANT/IN connector on the back of your TV, point the TV antenna toward your local TV tower and scan for channels. (Check "dtv gov maps" for available channels).
Step 2: Check the signal strength
If channels are still absent, use the Manual Tuning screen to check signal strength and quality. The menu route depends on your software:
- Newer software: Settings → General → Channels, then the signal or Manual Tuning option.
- 2020-era and earlier software: the shorter Channels path shown in LG’s signal-check guide dated October 21, 2025.
LG’s troubleshooting guidance treats two readings as signs of a weak signal. Signal strength below 50% may indicate a weak broadcast signal, according to LG USA Support’s current guidance on screen flicker, which was checked in October 2026 and does not show a publication date. Its 2025 signal guide also says that signal-quality fluctuation above 30% can indicate weakness. These are LG’s troubleshooting thresholds. Your model may display the readings differently, and they are not a guarantee of what any particular channel will do.
Step 3: Improve or escalate the signal
- Check the antenna’s position, cable connections, and any splitters or amplifiers between the antenna and the TV.
- Re-seat the coaxial connector at both ends and repeat the scan.
- If the signal stays weak on a building or shared antenna system, contact the building manager.
- If the weak signal comes from a cable or broadcast provider’s feed, contact that provider.
Set-top boxes and cable boxes
If you watch channels through a cable or satellite set-top box, the box holds its own channel lineup. Running the TV’s scan will not restore channels the box does not provide. Contact the service provider, who can refresh the box’s lineup or tell you whether a channel has moved. Your TV still needs the correct input selected to show the box’s output.
Quick Recap
Quick checklist
- Confirm whether the TV receives channels from an antenna, a direct cable feed, or a set-top box.
- Run Auto Channel, Auto Tuning, or EZ Scan and let it finish.
- Check the channel list afterward.
- Repeat the scan after any change to the antenna or cable connection or after a provider lineup change.
