The steps depend on the Apple device you are using. On iPhone, open the page, use Safari’s Share controls, choose Markup, tap Done, then choose Save File To. On iPad, tap Share, View More, and Markup before saving. On Mac, choose File > Print, open the print dialog’s PDF menu, select Save as PDF, and choose a filename and location.

Interface labels can differ with the installed iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and Safari versions. If a label is in a different place, look for the same control rather than assuming the PDF feature has been removed.

How to save a webpage as a PDF on iPhone
1. Open the page in Safari
Navigate to the webpage you want to preserve and wait for the content you need to appear. The PDF is created from the page currently open in Safari.

If Safari uses a tab layout with the address bar at the bottom or top, Apple’s documented route may show the Share button directly. Otherwise, tap the Page Menu button next to the address field, then tap Share.

3. Choose Markup
In the share sheet, tap Markup. You can highlight text, draw, or write notes before creating the PDF. Markup is optional; if you do not need annotations, continue through the same screen without adding them.
4. Finish and save the file
- Tap Done when the page looks the way you want.
- Tap Save File To.
- Enter a filename.
- Select a folder in Files, such as iCloud Drive or a location under On My iPhone.
- Tap Save.
The resulting document is a PDF that can be opened from the Files app, attached to a message, or shared with another app.
How to save a webpage as a PDF on iPad
1. Open the webpage
Load the page in Safari and position it at the page you want to capture.
2. Open the share sheet
Tap Share. In the share sheet, tap View More, then choose Markup. The extra View More step is part of Apple’s documented iPad route.
3. Annotate if needed
Use Markup’s highlighting, drawing, or writing tools if the PDF needs comments or emphasis. These edits are made before the file is saved.

4. Save to Files
- Tap Done.
- Select Save File To.
- Give the document a filename.
- Choose the destination folder.
- Tap Save.
Open Files to verify the document and move it to another folder or cloud location if required.
How to save as PDF in Safari on Mac
On Mac, use macOS’s print dialog. Apple’s Mac instructions describe the general system PDF workflow rather than a Safari-only command, but it is the standard way to save the currently viewed webpage from Safari.

1. Open the print dialog
- With the webpage active in Safari, choose File from the menu bar.
- Click Print.
2. Select the PDF command
In the print dialog, click the PDF button or open the PDF menu and choose Save as PDF.
3. Name and store the document
- Enter a filename in the save dialog.
- Choose the folder where the PDF should be stored.
- Click Save.
Choosing both a name and a destination matters: otherwise macOS may save to an unexpected default folder, making the file appear to be missing.
Optional Mac security settings
The Mac PDF save dialog can expose Security Options. Use them only when appropriate: you can require a password to open the PDF, copy from it, or print it. This is a macOS PDF setting, not a special Safari webpage feature.

The Mac route creates the PDF through the print dialog. The exact pagination, headers, footers, and treatment of interactive page elements can depend on the webpage and your print settings. The official workflow establishes how to save the PDF, not how every site will lay itself out.
Dynamic and restricted pages
A page that requires a sign-in, loads content only after interaction, or blocks printing may not appear in the PDF exactly as it appears on screen. If important content is absent, confirm that it was visible before opening the save or print controls and check the page’s own export option, if one is provided.
Move a saved Safari PDF to another Apple device
On Mac, Safari can send a saved webpage or PDF to Books. Once it is in the Books library, it can be opened on an iPhone or iPad using the same Apple account and Books synchronization settings. This is an optional reading route; saving to a local folder or iCloud Drive works independently.
Troubleshooting Safari PDF saves
The Share button is not where the instructions say
On iPhone, Safari’s tab layout changes whether Share is visible directly or is nested under the Page Menu. Check both locations. On iPad, begin with Share and then look for View More.

Markup does not appear
Use the Share sheet’s additional actions or scroll through the list. On iPad, the documented path specifically places Markup after View More. If the page is opened in another browser or an in-app web view, reopen it in Safari before following these steps.
The saved file cannot be found
On iPhone or iPad, open Files and check the folder chosen under Save File To, including iCloud Drive and On My iPhone or On My iPad. On Mac, search the destination selected in the save dialog and confirm the filename extension is .pdf.
The PDF is missing part of the page
Return to Safari and make sure the required section has loaded. Some pages reveal text, images, or tables only after scrolling or interaction. A site may also intentionally restrict printing. In those cases, use the site’s own download or print command when available, or save separate sections.
The PDF looks different from the webpage
PDF output is a fixed document, while webpages can reflow for different widths and rely on scripts, video, or live data. Try changing print settings on Mac, or save after the page has finished loading on iPhone or iPad. No single setting guarantees identical pagination for every site.

You need a protected PDF on Mac
After choosing Save as PDF, look for Security Options. Set a password only if recipients can receive it securely; password protection does not encrypt the original webpage or prevent someone from viewing the page online.

- One-off reading or sharing: use Safari’s built-in route on the device you already have.
- Annotations on a phone or tablet: choose Markup before saving.
- Mac files that need a chosen folder or password: use the print dialog and its PDF options.
