To save a League of Legends highlight, open a replay of a match you played in the League client while it is available, find the moment, and use the client’s built-in recording or highlight feature to create a video. Riot’s Patch 26.20 notes, published October 6, 2026, say players can still download and watch their own match replays in the client, but other players and third-party apps or sites can no longer download them.
What changed with League replay access
Under Riot’s Patch 26.20 policy, replay access is limited to matches you participated in. You can review your own matches by downloading and watching their replays directly in the League client; you can no longer rely on another player or a third-party app or site to download a replay for you. Riot says the restrictions are intended to close security vulnerabilities exploited to build unauthorized tools around League game data. Read Riot’s Patch 26.20 notes.
Save a highlight from your own match
- Open your match history in the League client. Find a match you played in and open its replay while the client still makes it available. Riot confirms that players can download and watch their own replays through the client, but the current notes do not specify a retention period.
- Find the moment you want to keep. Watch the replay and navigate to the play you want to preserve.
- Use the in-client recording or highlight feature. Riot’s published guide describes recording a replay highlight as a video file. The guide dates to 2017, so its specific buttons, menu locations, and other interface details may not match the current client. See Riot’s replay guide.
- Check the video before you leave. Locate the saved video, copy it to a durable location if needed, and play it to confirm it recorded correctly. Riot’s current notes and the older guide do not establish the current default folder or export format.
Replay file or shareable video?
A replay lets you review a match inside League; a recorded highlight gives you a video you can keep and share. Since replay access is now limited to participants, save the video while you can open your own replay if you want a clip that will remain available independently of replay access. Riot’s current notes confirm the client replay route, while its older guide documents the general highlight-recording workflow; neither establishes current export controls or video specifications.

How long do League of Legends replays last?
Riot’s Patch 26.20 notes do not state how long a replay remains available, so a current retention window cannot be confirmed from those notes. Riot’s Patch 14.6 notes in 2024 described replay storage as returning to “~14 days as normal” after a temporary update. That is historical information, not confirmation of the current duration. What the current instructions do—and do not—confirm
- Confirmed: You can download and watch replays of matches you played through the League client, and Riot’s older guide describes using the built-in recording feature to save a highlight as video.
- Not established by the cited current notes: the replay’s exact expiry date, current button labels and menu path, the video format, and the default save location. Check the current client interface rather than assuming the 2017 guide’s controls or details still apply.
