Fastest answer: In Firefox, open the page, right-click an empty area, choose Take Screenshot, select Save full page, then click Download. Firefox saves a PNG containing content below the fold. Use Save visible when you only need the current viewport. On Windows and Linux, Ctrl+Shift+S opens the screenshot tool; on macOS, use Command+Shift+S.
If you need a remote URL-to-image workflow, enter the page address in an online capture service and select PNG, JPEG, or PDF. For private or logged-in pages, capture locally unless you have reviewed the service’s authentication and privacy terms.
Choose the right capture method first
Your choice depends on where the page is, how much of it you need, and whether the content is private.

Save a full webpage as a PNG in Firefox
- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait for the visible content to finish loading.
- Right-click an empty area of the page. On macOS, Control-click if necessary.
- Select Take Screenshot.
- Choose Save full page. This captures the page below the current viewport. Choose Save visible for only what is currently on screen.
- Click Download to save the PNG, or choose Copy to place the screenshot on your clipboard.
Firefox also lets you drag a region or select an automatically highlighted page element. Downloaded files are named with the date, time, and page title according to Firefox’s support documentation.

When full page is not the right choice
- Visible area: Use this for a single application screen, a hero section, or a quick bug report.
- Selected region: Use this to exclude navigation, advertisements, or unrelated page sections.
- Selected element: Use this when you need one card, table, or article component rather than the entire document.
Developer option: Firefox Developer Tools
Firefox Developer Tools provides a more scriptable route. Open Developer Tools, open its settings, and enable the screenshot control under Available Toolbox Buttons. The screenshot button can capture the entire page or an individual element.
Firefox’s Web Console also provides a Firefox-specific :screenshot helper. Its documented options include:
--fullpagefor the complete document--delayto wait before capture--dprto set device-pixel ratio--filenameto choose the output file name--clipboardto copy the result instead of writing a file
This is not a universal browser command. Treat it as an advanced Firefox workflow and check the command’s current syntax in the browser you are using.
Save a URL as an image with an online service
- Open the URL-capture service in your browser.
- Paste the public webpage address into its URL field.
- Select an output format. Choose PNG for visual fidelity, JPEG when a smaller compressed file is acceptable, or PDF for document-style sharing.
- Set a capture delay when the page loads content after the initial response.
- Start the capture and download the returned file.
Online services are convenient for public pages and repeatable workflows, but their controls and limits differ. A URL field alone does not establish that the service can use your cookies, complete a login, or capture an internal dashboard. For confidential content, use Firefox locally or review the provider’s security and privacy terms before submitting the URL.

PNG, JPEG, or PDF?

Dynamic pages, lazy loading, and very long documents
A full-page command does not guarantee that every interactive component has rendered. News feeds, image galleries, charts, and pages that load sections while you scroll can produce incomplete captures.
- Scroll through the page once before capturing so lazy-loaded images have a chance to appear.
- Use a delay in an online service or Firefox’s
:screenshot --delayoption when content needs extra time. - Close menus, consent dialogs, chat panels, and video overlays before taking a local screenshot.
- For exceptionally long pages, consider a PDF for sharing or capture logical sections separately. Extremely tall image files can be difficult to open, edit, or send.
No method reliably reproduces every animation, canvas, embedded video, or infinite-scroll state. Record the page state and capture time when the image is evidence for a bug, audit, or approval.
Browser extension option for repeat work
An extension can be useful if you repeatedly capture full pages and need cropping, annotation, or blurring after capture. OpenCapture says it supports Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, captures full pages, offers cropping, annotation, and blurring, and exports PNG or PDF locally. OpenCapture also states, Nothing is uploaded — the extension runs entirely in your browser.
That is the vendor’s statement, not an independent audit. Check the current store listing, requested permissions, compatibility, watermark terms, and pricing before installation; the vendor describes an optional tiled watermark feature as paid.

The screenshot stops at the visible viewport
Choose Save full page, not Save visible. In an API, enable the full-page option. If the page uses infinite scrolling, capture after loading the required sections or split the work into sections.
Images or cards are missing
Scroll through the page first, add a delay, and retry. Lazy-loaded resources may not exist until the browser or capture engine reaches them.

The service may not have your authenticated session. Capture locally in Firefox, or configure an API’s documented headers and cookies only after confirming that sending the content externally is acceptable.

Capture the visible area or logical sections, reduce the device-pixel ratio, resize the result, or choose JPEG when compression is acceptable. Use PDF for long document-style sharing.
The page is blank or times out

Privacy and reliability checks
- Do not paste credentials into a URL or send a private page to a third party without reviewing its terms.
- Capture a stable page state: pause animations, set the intended viewport, and note the URL and time.
- For repeat jobs, use deterministic waits, a cache TTL that matches your freshness needs, and retries for transient network failures.
- Verify the downloaded file opens and contains the expected bottom-of-page content before deleting the source page or session.

Can I save a webpage as an image without installing software?
Yes. Firefox’s built-in Take Screenshot command saves a full page or visible area as a PNG without an extension.
