To retrieve a deleted photo, first open Gallery > Menu (three horizontal lines) > Recycle bin > Edit, select the image, and tap Restore. Samsung’s Canada support guide says Gallery keeps deleted items in the bin for 30 days before permanently deleting them. If it is not there, check My Files’ separate Recycle bin, then any OneDrive or Google backup that held a copy before deletion.
Restore a photo from Samsung Gallery’s Recycle bin
- Open the Gallery app.
- Tap Menu (the three horizontal lines), then Recycle bin. Depending on your software version, the menu’s location or wording may differ.
- Tap Edit, select the photo, and tap Restore.
Samsung Canada’s guide says Gallery-deleted items remain in the Recycle bin for 30 days before automatic permanent deletion. If the photo is still there, restoring it is the quickest route back to your Gallery. Samsung Canada: Delete and restore files using the Trash feature in Samsung apps.
Check My Files’ Recycle bin separately
A photo that is missing from Gallery’s bin may still be in My Files’ bin. Open My Files > Recycle bin, select the file, and tap Restore. Samsung also documents recycle-bin management under Settings > Device care > Storage management > Recycle bin. These are separate recovery locations; the 30-day retention period cited above is specifically for Gallery and should not be assumed to apply to every item managed by My Files. Look for a copy in OneDrive
This applies only if Gallery had synced the photos to OneDrive before they went missing. Samsung US says Gallery Sync with OneDrive ended on September 30, 2026. Media that had already synced remains in OneDrive, but new Gallery items no longer sync through that feature. Sign in to the OneDrive account you used and look in the Gallery folder or the location where the files were stored. Download any recovered photos to your phone. If the OneDrive copy was deleted
Check OneDrive’s own Recycle bin. Samsung US says deleted photos and videos remain there for 93 days. Restore the file from that bin; if it is not already on your phone, download it afterward. This is a separate cloud recovery window, not an extension of Gallery’s on-device bin. Samsung US OneDrive photo guidance.
Check a backup that existed before deletion
A backup can help only if it was enabled and included the photo before it was deleted. On your Galaxy device, Samsung documents photo and video backup settings at Settings > Accounts and backup > Back up data. Sign in to the account you used and verify that the missing media is actually present before attempting a restore. Samsung’s Gallery guidance covers Google Drive and Google One backup options; it does not mean every phone automatically backed up Gallery content. Understand which recovery location applies

Why a Google-linked Gallery option may not appear
Samsung Japan’s Gallery cloud-sync page, updated October 5, 2026, describes syncing through a linked Google account, but says availability at that date is on One UI 9.0, with lower versions to follow. Samsung also warns that availability varies by device, region, carrier, and software. Do not assume that this option is already available on every Galaxy phone or tablet. If the photo is missing from every bin and backup
If neither recycle bin nor an account backup contains the image, the cited Samsung support guidance does not establish a guaranteed way to recover a permanently deleted photo. Recovery software should not be treated as a promise that the file can be restored. If you do recover the image from any available copy, save a second copy somewhere separate from Gallery, such as a computer or USB-C flash drive for Android.
