To limit a child’s access to mature games, add their account to your platform’s family group and set game or content restrictions on that child’s profile. On PS5, use Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management. On Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, manage the child’s content settings in the Xbox Family Settings app. These are account-level controls; game ratings, menus, and available settings can vary by region and platform.
Before you change game restrictions
Use a child account in the platform’s family system, rather than relying on a general console setting. A parent or guardian can then manage restrictions for that child and, where available, review requests for exceptions. Set controls for each child account that uses the console.

Age-based game restrictions are separate from controls for screen time, communication, web access, privacy, and purchases. Those options can be useful, but they do not replace restrictions on games and apps.

Add the child to your PlayStation family
A family manager can create or add a child account using the PlayStation Family app, the console, or the web. Online, sign in to Account Management and open Family Management. See PlayStation’s family account setup guide for the available routes and account setup details.
#1 Best Overall
- Media playback controls - Quickly navigate media with built-in play/pause, fast forward and fast reverse buttons.
- Seamless console compatibility - Power on your PS5 console and navigate its menus directly with the remote for ultimate convenience.
- TV settings - Adjust the volume and power settings of compatible TVs with the built-in IR transmitter. PS5 system software update may be required.
Change game and content settings on PS5
- On the PS5, open Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management.
- Select the child’s account.
- Open the parental controls for games and content, then choose a preset restriction level or customize the available controls.
You can also select the child in the PlayStation Family app and open Parental Controls > Games and Apps. For web management, sign in to Account Management, open Family Management, choose the child, and edit the parental controls. The official PlayStation parental controls guide documents these routes.
Change settings on PS4
- Open Settings > Parental Controls/Family Management > Family Management.
- Select the child’s account and change the parental controls for games and content.
PlayStation provides preset restriction levels as well as individual controls. The rating labels and options you see may depend on the account’s region, so use the choices shown for that child’s account rather than assuming one rating threshold applies everywhere.

Review requests for restricted PS5 games
If a child tries to open a restricted PS5 game, they can request access. The family manager or an appointed parent or guardian can review the request in the app or on the console and allow or deny it. This is a per-game exception process, not a reason to change the child’s general age level.

PlayStation describes a system restriction passcode that can prevent changes to parental controls or account creation, and a separate log-in passcode for limiting access to the adult account. Keep adult account credentials private and manage family settings from that account. Details are available on PlayStation’s parental controls information page.

Use Xbox Family Settings
Install the Xbox Family Settings app on a parent’s iOS or Android phone, then use the child’s profile and its content settings to manage access for Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. Microsoft confirms the app supports child-account setup and content controls for those consoles; consult the Xbox Family Settings app page for current app information.
Microsoft Family Safety also describes game and app content filters for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. See Microsoft Family Safety for its overview.

- Mix and match your favorite characters including Ratchet, Clank, Jak, Daxter, Sly, and Bentley to create your own super squad of PlayStation heroes
- After an evil force has stolen entire chunks of the hero's home worlds and enslaved a race of peaceful space creatures, the heroes find themselves locked in a struggle for their survival
- Take a hold of a whole new arsenal of super powered weapons as you Smash, Hurl, and Shoot your way to freedom
- Team together with a friend in 2 player co-op mode as you work together to defeat these new villainous foes
The official overview confirms that these controls are available but does not establish a single current menu sequence or universal age threshold. Follow the labels and options shown in the app for the child’s account, and check Xbox Support for device-specific instructions if a setting is missing. Xbox Family Settings is a parent-management app; it is not a child-facing app, and child accounts cannot sign in to it.

What these restrictions do—and do not—cover
Age-based settings are a filter, not a guarantee that every game or all material within a service is covered. PlayStation’s US terms warn that not all content is rated and that parental controls may not apply to unrated content. Review a game’s rating and description, and check whether the game or service offers separate controls. The warning appears in the PlayStation Network Terms of Service.

- Multi-point vehicle movement: Every vehicle has multiple points inside and out to move between in real-time, not cut scenes, jumping between multiple positions on a single vehicle or to other vehicles¿ with over 100 vehicles
- Air, land, water and underwater: Just Cause 2 delivers action everywhere from 500 feet above to 50 feet below through jungles, snowy mountainside, deserts, cities and more, with over 600 square miles to explore and destroy.
- Nearly endless and open-ended game-play: From deep missions to small jobs, to free exploration, players follow the route they want when they want.

- Weapons galore: Single and dual handed weapons, rocket launchers, grenade launchers, explosives, and vehicle mounted weapons.
On Xbox, content settings are managed through the child’s family profile, but the cited product overview does not specify exact rating thresholds. Check the available controls in the app and confirm the outcome on the child’s profile rather than assuming an age label or setting works identically across regions and devices.
