To access voicemail on a Samsung Galaxy S21, open the Phone app and touch and hold 1. To change or reset your voicemail password or PIN, follow your carrier’s procedure: the S21 provides access, but carriers control voicemail features and credentials.
How do I open voicemail on a Samsung Galaxy S21?
- Open the Samsung Phone app.
- Touch and hold 1 on the keypad to call voicemail. If your carrier’s Visual Voicemail is set up, you may be able to open it through the Phone app or a carrier-provided Voicemail app.
- Follow the prompts for your carrier. The available menus and options vary by carrier, as Samsung explains in its Galaxy call settings guidance and the Galaxy S21 series user manual.
First identify what you need to reset
A password change and a forgotten-password reset are different. A change flow may ask for your existing password; if you no longer know it, use your carrier’s forgotten-password reset route instead. The carrier examples below are US-specific, not universal Samsung codes.

Carrier-specific voicemail password and PIN options

Do you mean your voicemail greeting?
If you can access voicemail but want to change the greeting, use the carrier’s voicemail settings rather than resetting the password. Verizon says Visual Voicemail users can change a greeting in the app or dial *86 and follow the prompts. See Verizon’s Visual Voicemail FAQs for its instructions.

What if voicemail still will not open?
- Check that you are using the voicemail app or dial-in method provided for your carrier; Samsung’s Phone app does not determine the carrier’s reset process.
- If a menu or code does not match the instructions, stop rather than trying another carrier’s code. Contact your carrier for the correct steps for your line and account.
- A factory reset is not part of the carrier password-reset procedures described here. These steps use carrier voicemail settings, a carrier account, or an IVR call.
