If Hulu is frozen, crashing, or will not open on your Samsung Smart TV, start with a cold boot, then check the TV’s software and reinstall Hulu. Reset Smart Hub only if those steps fail: it signs you out of your Samsung account and all apps. “Reset Hulu” can mean several different things, so the steps below move from the least disruptive fix to broader resets.
What “reset Hulu” means on a Samsung TV
Samsung’s support page describes this problem as “An app will not work on my Samsung TV or projector.” The right fix depends on whether Hulu itself needs a fresh install or the TV’s broader app environment needs attention.

Try these fixes in order
1. Cold boot the TV
Turning a Samsung TV off normally can leave it in standby. A cold boot fully shuts it down and starts it again, which is a useful first step for a frozen or unresponsive app.

- With the TV on, press and hold the remote’s Power button until the TV restarts.
- If that does not work, turn the TV off and unplug it from power.
- Wait 30 seconds, reconnect the TV, and turn it on. Samsung Canada specifies this wait time; regional guidance and model instructions can vary.
- Open Hulu and check whether it loads and responds normally.
Samsung’s US app troubleshooting instructions describe both restarting with the remote and unplugging the TV. Samsung’s Canada guidance recommends waiting 30 seconds before reconnecting.

2. Check for TV software updates
Hulu says Samsung TVs receive Hulu app updates automatically. If Hulu still fails, check whether the TV itself has a software update available. On supported Samsung TVs, use this route:
Menu > Support > Software Update > Update Now
Menu names and locations can differ by model. Samsung also recommends checking for software updates when an app does not work. See Hulu’s Samsung device guidance and Samsung’s US troubleshooting page.

3. Reinstall Hulu
If a cold boot and software check do not fix the problem, reinstall Hulu. Have your Hulu sign-in details ready because you may need to log in again.

- Open Settings within Apps.
- Select Hulu, then choose Delete.
- If Delete is disabled because Hulu is a recommended app, select Reinstall instead.
- Search for Hulu in Apps and install it again.
- Launch Hulu and sign in if prompted.

4. Reset Smart Hub only if Hulu still fails
Resetting Smart Hub is broader than reinstalling Hulu. Samsung states: “When you reset Smart Hub, the TV will sign you out of your Samsung account and all of your apps.” Gather the sign-in information for those accounts before proceeding. A PIN may be requested; Samsung says the default is 0000 if it has not been changed.

Menu paths can vary by model and region. If these labels do not match your TV, follow its model-specific Samsung instructions rather than guessing. Samsung’s US troubleshooting page and Smart Hub reset guidance provide the US procedures.

Reset Smart Hub addresses the TV’s app environment; resetting the entire TV is a broader operation. Samsung notes that its full Reset function is unavailable while you are inside an app such as Hulu. If the menu paths do not match your TV
Samsung’s US instructions are the basis for the paths in this guide, but model years and regional products can use different menus. Samsung Australia explicitly notes that its information applies to Australian products and that models and sequences vary by location and purchase region.
