Back up your projects, settings, and samples before resetting an MPC One. A documented reset path is Shift + Menu → Info → Reset; the unit restarts afterward. If the problem began during a firmware update, use Akai’s separate firmware-recovery instructions instead: an ordinary Reset is not established as a way to reinstall firmware.
Before you reset: back up your work
A reset may affect data or settings you want to keep, and the precise effects can depend on the firmware version. The available reset instructions do not establish exactly what the Reset action clears. Make an independent backup and check the current MPC One manual before proceeding if you need to know what will be preserved or removed.

- Connect external USB or SD storage suitable for your files. Akai’s FAQ identifies USB and SD storage as ways to transfer MPC One files and projects.
- From the Main screen, use the Folder icon to select and save your Programs, Sequences, and samples to the external storage. Confirm the files are present there before continuing.
- Eject the storage safely. Keep the backup separate from the MPC while you reset it.
The navigation sequence above is documented in a Sweetwater guide last updated February 10, 2020; treat it as a reference path, not confirmation that every current firmware version behaves identically. See the Sweetwater MPC One reset guide.
How to perform the documented MPC One Reset
- Hold Shift and press Menu.
- Choose Info, then press Reset.
- Allow the MPC One to restart.
This is the reset procedure documented by Sweetwater. The sources available do not confirm that Reset erases every user file, restores bundled factory content, or reinstalls the operating system. Do not rely on it for any of those outcomes; consult the manual for the firmware version installed on your unit.

Reset or firmware recovery: choose the right path
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| You want to use the documented Reset action | Back up first, then follow the Reset steps above. |
| An update failed or was interrupted | Follow Akai’s current MPC firmware update walkthrough, including its emergency/manual update instructions. Reset is not established as firmware recovery. |
| The MPC will not power on, shuts off intermittently, or has unrelated display, audio, or connectivity issues | Akai advises against attempting a firmware update to remedy these symptoms; contact Akai support. |
Recovering from a failed firmware update
Use Akai’s official walkthrough and confirm its current instructions for your device before starting. Akai says an interrupted update can make recovery difficult, although a failed update is unlikely to damage the MPC and may require a manual update.
Prepare carefully
- Use the correct power adapter. Akai lists 19V DC, 3.42A for the MPC One in its adapter table, which groups MPC X Series, MPC Live Series, and MPC One.
- For a computer-based update, connect directly by USB. Akai advises against hubs, adapters, extenders, or long cables.
- Disconnect other USB and MIDI devices. Do not use the MPC or power it off while an update is running.
- Use firmware intended for your model and follow the walkthrough’s current preparation steps. Firmware availability and supported hardware cohorts change; check Akai’s MPC release notes rather than assuming a particular version is the latest.
Enter manual update mode on MPC One
Akai lists FULL LEVEL + BROWSE + PAD BANK C/G for manual update mode on the MPC One and MPC One+. Prepare the update as Akai directs, power the MPC off, then hold the listed buttons while powering it on. Keep holding until the unit has fully powered on. Do not substitute the button combination for another MPC model; follow the walkthrough for the exact current process.

If factory content, expansions, or plugins are missing
Akai’s MPC One FAQ says factory content, additional expansions, and plugins are available through the owner’s Akai account. Sign in and check the account’s downloads area. The FAQ also identifies USB or SD storage for moving user files and projects. These facts do not establish that Reset restores deleted factory content or explain a complete rebuild procedure. If the account downloads do not resolve the issue, contact Akai support rather than using an unofficial system image.
