Start with Nvidia’s latest quarterly filing, then use its annual report to understand the business and risks. Before comparing Nvidia with other AI chip companies, identify each company’s role in the computing supply chain; an accelerator designer, custom-chip provider, and contract manufacturer do not have the same exposure. Finally, separate operating performance from valuation: strong demand or execution does not by itself show whether a stock price is attractive.

Start with Nvidia’s latest quarterly filing

A quarterly report updates the business picture; an annual report gives fuller context. In its fiscal 2027 second-quarter Form 10-Q for the quarter ended July 26, 2026, filed August 26, 2026, NVIDIA said Blackwell accounted for most system shipments, Vera Rubin shipments began in the third quarter, and the company was experiencing supply constraints. These are company disclosures about the reported period and management’s expectations, not independent confirmation of future results.

Read the filing’s management discussion alongside its financial statements and notes. Look for what management attributes changes in revenue, margins, inventory, and cash generation to, then check whether the figures support that explanation. Also review customer concentration or dependencies, product transitions, supply constraints, guarantees, and long-term obligations. A demand narrative is more useful when you can trace it into reported results and identify what must happen next for it to continue.

Distinguish commitments from sales

NVIDIA reported $279 billion in supply and capacity commitments as of July 26, 2026, up from $119 billion in the prior quarter. These are commitments made to secure supply and capacity, not revenue, backlog, or guaranteed sales. Consider what the company may owe or risk if demand changes, customers delay deployment, or market conditions shift.

Check the infrastructure needed to turn demand into revenue

Buying accelerators is only one part of deploying an AI data center. NVIDIA says customer and partner deployments depend on land, power, data-center shells, and capital, and that shortages of these or other resources could affect its future revenue and financial performance. Its filing also says customers may delay purchases if infrastructure or financing is unavailable. Treat deployment readiness as an execution dependency, not as a detail separate from chip demand.

NVIDIA’s fiscal 2027 second-quarter Form 10-Q states: “The availability of land, power, shell, and capital is crucial to support the buildout of a full data center inclusive of NVIDIA AI infrastructure by our customers and partners, and any shortage of these or other necessary resources could impact our future revenue and financial performance.” This is NVIDIA’s own risk disclosure, not an independent forecast.

Use the annual report to understand the business and its risks

NVIDIA’s Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended January 25, 2026, filed February 25, 2026, is the fuller baseline for its business description, financial statements, notes, risk factors, and market-risk disclosures. Read those sections together: the business description explains what the company sells, the financial statements show what it has reported, and the risk factors describe conditions that could affect future performance.

Track a consistent set of financial measures

  • Revenue and mix: Track growth and the parts of the business contributing to it. Do not assume that total company growth tells you how dependent results are on AI-related demand.
  • Gross and operating margins: Compare changes over time and look for management’s explanations. Revenue growth with changing margins can imply a different business trajectory from growth with stable or improving margins.
  • Cash generation and spending: Review operating cash flow and capital spending together; reported earnings and cash available to fund operations or obligations are not interchangeable.
  • Inventory and commitments: Consider whether inventory is building and what long-term supply or capacity obligations accompany planned growth.
  • Customer, geographic, and compensation exposure: Review disclosures on customer concentration, geographic exposure, and share-based compensation rather than treating them as peripheral details.

NVIDIA’s 2026 Form 10-K says semiconductor supply lead times may extend beyond 12 months. That is a reported risk, not a current estimate for every component. Use it to understand the possibility of long planning horizons and supply exposure, not as a universal present-day lead-time figure.

Map each company to its place in the AI computing value chain

“AI chip supplier” can describe businesses with very different economics. Label the company’s role before comparing performance, and verify any supplier relationship in company disclosures rather than assuming that an industry participant sells directly to Nvidia.

Company or category What to investigate Primary-source starting point
NVIDIA: accelerator design, software ecosystem, and complete systems Product transitions, reported demand, supply constraints and commitments, customer deployment dependencies, competition, and regulatory or export restrictions disclosed in filings. NVIDIA’s fiscal 2027 second-quarter Form 10-Q and fiscal 2026 Form 10-K.
AMD: competing chip designer Its AI GPU roadmap, competition, semiconductor cyclicality, and manufacturing dependencies. AMD’s annual filing describes reliance on TSMC for production at certain advanced nodes. AMD’s Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 27, 2025, filed February 4, 2026.
Broadcom: custom silicon and related exposure to AI infrastructure How the company describes its businesses and financial exposure in its own annual and quarterly reports; do not infer direct Nvidia-supplier status without a disclosure establishing it. Broadcom’s investor-relations annual reports and financial reports index, including its 2025 annual report and 2026 quarterly filing listing.
TSMC: foundry and manufacturing exposure Its own description of manufacturing operations, capacity, and business risks. Foundry exposure differs from designing and selling accelerators. TSMC’s 2025 Annual Report.
Memory, advanced packaging, and systems companies Whether a company’s filings establish its role, customers, capacity plans, and sensitivity to AI-related demand. Do not assume a direct relationship with Nvidia from sector membership alone. The relevant company’s filings and annual reports.

These filing references identify where to begin; the companies’ own reports are management disclosures. Treat forward-looking statements as company expectations rather than independent verification.

Compare financial resilience on a like-for-like basis

Once you know what each company does, compare the same measures over comparable periods where possible: revenue growth, gross and operating margins, operating cash flow, capital spending, inventory, customer concentration, and debt or other contractual obligations. Record the fiscal period and accounting definition for every figure. Fiscal years and segment definitions can differ, so an apparent difference may reflect reporting boundaries as well as business performance.

AMD’s 2025 Form 10-K warns that semiconductor markets are cyclical and subject to technology shifts, supply-demand swings, price erosion, and economic weakness. Use that disclosure as a reminder to test whether a company’s results depend on conditions that can change—not as proof that every company in the value chain has identical risks.

Evaluate valuation with dated, comparable inputs

Operating performance and investment price answer different questions. A company can execute well while its share price already assumes very high growth or margins. To assess what a price implies, collect valuation inputs on the same stated date rather than mixing current prices with older financials or estimates.

  1. Record the market inputs: Share price, diluted shares, market capitalization, and the date observed.
  2. Build enterprise value consistently: Start with market capitalization and account for cash, debt, and other relevant claims using a clearly stated definition.
  3. Choose the financial periods: Record trailing reported earnings, revenue, and free cash flow, and identify any forward estimates as estimates, with their source and date.
  4. Calculate and label multiples: P/E, enterprise value to sales, and free-cash-flow yield are useful only when their periods and definitions are clear. Do not compare a trailing multiple for one company with a forward multiple for another as though they were equivalent.
  5. Test scenarios: Ask how the valuation changes if growth slows, margins contract, or deployment is delayed. The exercise is to expose assumptions and downside sensitivity, not to produce a precise forecast.

No synchronized set of current market prices, analyst estimates, or comparable multiples is established here. A current valuation comparison would require refreshing those inputs together and stating the observation date.

Build a company-specific risk checklist

Use each company’s filings to identify which assumptions could fail and what the financial consequences might be. For Nvidia, the filings point to the ability to meet demand, the scale and risk of supply commitments, customer readiness and financing, data-center power and availability, competition, and regulatory or export restrictions. For other companies, inspect their own customer concentration, reliance on manufacturing partners, capacity plans, product transitions, cyclicality, and capital intensity.

  • What has to be true for the company’s stated growth expectations to occur?
  • Which parts of the business depend on a small number of customers, suppliers, processes, or regions?
  • Could capacity, infrastructure, customer financing, or a product transition delay revenue?
  • What obligations remain if demand or market conditions change?
  • Which risks are specific to this company, and which are common to its industry?

Keep the conclusion separate from the stock price

A sound research note should state what the company does, what its recent filings show, what assumptions its growth depends on, and what the current price appears to require. Keep reported results, management expectations, and your own valuation scenarios distinct. This method supports an informed comparison; it does not establish that any stock is suitable for a particular investor.
