If money has been taken through a digital payment or online scam, call India’s cyber-fraud helpline at 1930 promptly, then report the incident at cybercrime.gov.in. Also notify the affected bank, wallet, merchant, or payment provider using contact details verified independently through its official website or app. Save every acknowledgement or reference number. Reporting can help authorities and financial intermediaries assess or act on the complaint, but it does not guarantee that funds will be recovered.
What to do first after cyber financial fraud
- Call 1930 promptly. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal directs victims of cyber financial fraud to use this helpline for immediate reporting. Note the time of your call and keep the acknowledgement or reference number you receive. National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal
- Contact the affected financial provider. Report the unauthorized transaction to the bank, wallet, merchant, or payment provider involved. Use a phone number or support channel you independently verify on its official website or app—not a number or link sent by a suspicious caller or message.
- File the online complaint. Use the portal at cybercrime.gov.in to provide the incident details and supporting files. Follow the portal and acknowledgement instructions for your particular report.
- Preserve the original evidence. Keep messages, call details, emails, chats, transaction confirmations, and statements. Make copies or screenshots for submission, but retain the originals and avoid editing the only copy.
The government describes the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS) as a mechanism for immediate reporting and coordination intended to help stop funds from being siphoned. That purpose is not a promise that a particular transaction can be stopped or reversed. Ministry of Home Affairs, Press Information Bureau, July 28, 2026
Choose the reporting route—and use both when useful
| Route | Best suited to | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 1930 helpline | Prompt initial reporting of cyber financial fraud | Call promptly, explain the incident, and save the acknowledgement or reference number provided. |
| Online portal | Submitting structured incident details and supporting files | File at cybercrime.gov.in and follow the live form and acknowledgement directions. |
The official guidance presents 1930 as the immediate reporting route and the portal as an online complaint channel. The available guidance does not establish that either route guarantees a better chance of recovery; make the initial report promptly and provide the requested details through the applicable channel.

Keep the original trail intact. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal citizen manual specifically advises preserving original evidence, including call details, numbers, recordings, and email, because law enforcement may need it as evidence. National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal citizen manual

Follow the acknowledgement and understand what happens next
A government instruction sheet for a Delhi-titled 1930 reporting workflow says callers receive a system-generated login or acknowledgement number and must complete portal registration within 24 hours. Because that sheet is Delhi-specific and older than the live portal checklist, treat the 24-hour direction as applying to the workflow described in that sheet—not automatically to every report. Follow the current message you receive and the live portal’s instructions if they differ. Delhi Police 1930 instruction sheet

The portal FAQ says complaints are handled by the concerned State or Union Territory police, based on the jurisdiction selected during reporting. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also described complaint handling, conversion into FIRs, and subsequent action as matters for the relevant State/UT law-enforcement agencies under applicable law. A portal submission should not be assumed to become an FIR automatically. National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal FAQ Ministry of Home Affairs response
Keep the acknowledgement and any further messages with your evidence. Reporting creates a record and enables the relevant authorities and financial intermediaries to assess or act on the complaint; what happens next depends on the facts and applicable law.

What reported-fraud figures can—and cannot—tell you
The Ministry of Home Affairs reported that more than ₹11,158 crore had been saved in more than 32.80 lakh complaints through CFCFRMS as of June 30, 2026. That is an aggregate system figure reported by the Ministry, not an estimate of an individual complainant’s odds of recovering money. Ministry of Home Affairs, Press Information Bureau, July 28, 2026
