For a non-emergency crime in Delhi, start at the official Delhi Police citizen services page and choose Complaint Lodging or a specifically named service that fits the incident. For immediate danger, call 112 rather than waiting for an online form. Cyber financial fraud should be reported promptly by calling 1930, as well as through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal where appropriate.
Before filing, check the live service’s scope and instructions: an online complaint is not necessarily an FIR, and not every incident is eligible for every service. Keep the report factual and retain copies of the materials you submit.
Choose the reporting route that matches the incident
Delhi Police lists several online citizen services, including general Complaint Lodging, Theft e-FIR, MV Theft e-FIR, Lost Report and View FIR. Select the route that best describes what happened; do not assume that a lost-property report is the same as reporting a crime, or that every offence can be filed through every online form. Check the service’s current eligibility and fields before submitting.

Delhi Police lists 1930 for cyber complaints. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal specifically advises calling 1930 for immediate reporting of cyber financial fraud. Reports are handled by law enforcement based on the information supplied; filing a portal complaint does not guarantee a particular outcome.

Submit a clear, accurate complaint
- Open the official Delhi Police citizen services page. Choose Complaint Lodging or the named service most relevant to the incident. For cybercrime, use the national portal or the Delhi Police Cyber Crime Unit route, following the live instructions.
- Write a chronological account. State what happened, when and where, who was involved if known, and how you became aware of it. Separate what you personally observed from what you suspect, and avoid guessing or presenting uncertain details as facts.
- Gather supporting records. For cybercrime, the national portal FAQ lists examples such as bank statements, online transfer receipts, email copies, webpage URLs, chat transcripts, screenshots showing suspect phone numbers, videos, images and other documents.
- Review the form before sending. Check names, dates, contact information, amounts and descriptions for accuracy. Follow the service’s stated requirements rather than assuming that a document or detail is mandatory across all complaint types.
- Keep a record of the submission. Save a copy of the information and files you submitted, along with any acknowledgement or reference details the service displays. This is practical recordkeeping; the cited portal materials do not establish it as a formal requirement for every service.
The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal FAQ asks users to provide as much accurate and complete information as possible. Its listed evidence examples are specific to cybercrime; they are not a universal Delhi Police checklist for every kind of report.
Preserve evidence without changing the original
For cyber incidents, retain the available original records and files, such as transaction records, emails, URLs, chats, screenshots, videos and images, and provide them through the official reporting route as instructed. Keep your own copies of what you submit. The official material cited here does not set out a general forensic procedure, a metadata-preservation standard or a chain-of-custody process for all cases, so do not treat any informal technique as an official Delhi Police requirement.

For other incident types, preserve relevant records you already have and follow directions from the reporting authority. Avoid editing or annotating original files before submission unless the authority’s instructions specifically call for it. If immediate safety is at stake, prioritize getting help over collecting evidence.
Know what the online service does—and does not—establish
Delhi Police lists Complaint Lodging, e-FIR, Lost Report and View FIR as distinct services. An online complaint submission is not necessarily the same procedural outcome as registration of an FIR. Use the service description and any acknowledgement it provides to understand what you submitted; do not assume that a complaint automatically becomes an FIR or that a Lost Report records a crime.

A Delhi Police manual updated 27 August 2025 describes e-NCR for a theft under ₹5,000 and references section 174 BNNS. That narrow description should not be generalized to other thefts or treated as a definitive guide to current eligibility or applicable law. Check the live service and, if needed, seek direction from the police about the appropriate route.

If circumstances change and there is immediate danger, call Delhi Police’s 24×7 emergency response number, 112. For cyber financial fraud, call 1930 promptly as directed by the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal; do not rely only on a later online form when urgent reporting is called for.

The service pages establish that the named reporting routes exist, but they do not provide a complete current eligibility matrix, document checklist, response-time promise or escalation procedure for every complaint. Use the live instructions for the service you select.
