A tablet charging port can often be replaced, but there is no single procedure that works for every tablet. Whether the port sits on a small daughterboard, lifts out as an assembly, or is soldered to the main board depends on the exact model and variant. The reliable order is to identify the model, rule out a cable or debris fault, and then follow that model’s own service instructions. If the guide calls for removing a bonded display, working on a soldered connector, or handling a swollen battery, stop and use a repair shop.
Identify the exact model and connector first
Manufacturers sell several generations and connectivity variants under one tablet name, and Wi-Fi and 5G or LTE versions of the same model can open differently. Find the model number on the device’s label or original box, or in the About section of the system settings (menu names vary by manufacturer). Then confirm the connector type. USB-C and Micro-USB ports are not interchangeable, and a part made for one will not fit the other.
Rule out a cable, debris, or moisture fault before opening anything
Many tablets that appear to have a dead port are actually fine. Work through these checks in order, and only move on when each one has been ruled out.

- Test with a known-good cable and adapter. Use a cable and a power adapter you know work with another device, and charge for a sustained period. A connection that charges only when the cable is held at a particular angle points to a worn cable or a failing port.
- Check the case. Some cases block the plug or sit too close to the connector. Remove the case and test again.
- Inspect the port with a light. Look for lint, dust, or debris packed into the socket. Samsung’s tablet troubleshooting guidance says to check the port for debris and visible damage. If debris remains after a careful look, seek professional cleaning. Do not insert sharp metal tools, and follow only the manufacturer’s approved cleaning method.
- Check for moisture. If the tablet has been exposed to liquid, let it dry fully and check for moisture indicators before connecting power. Do not charge a device that shows a moisture warning.
- Look for physical damage. A bent contact, a lifted connector plate, or a port that wobbles in its socket suggests a mechanical fault. A port that never charges at all can also be a board-level problem, so physical damage alone does not confirm which part to buy.
Know which kind of port you are dealing with
The model’s guide determines the job. The examples below come from published repair documents, and each one shows a different level of access.

These examples are not interchangeable instructions. A guide for one tablet tells you nothing reliable about the disassembly of another, even one from the same manufacturer.
Buy the right part and tools
- Order by exact model number. The required item may be a port, a daughterboard, or a larger assembly. A listing should state which tablet and variant it fits. A search for “tablet charging port replacement assembly” is a starting point, but check the listing against your model number before buying.
- Buy adhesive if the guide calls for it. The M4 iPad Pro guide specifies adhesive for both the port and the screen. Use the adhesive type named in your model’s guide.
- Use only the tools the guide lists. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S9+ instructions call for opening tools, screwdrivers, and tweezers, and Samsung’s self-repair guidance recommends demagnetized tools designed for small electronics and appropriate safety equipment.
- Use genuine parts where the manufacturer requires them. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S9+ self-repair page states: “Always use Samsung-authorised genuine parts. Third-party replacement parts may not function properly.” This applies to Samsung’s instructions for that model, not to every manufacturer.
General sequence once the model guide is open
Treat the list below as an outline of what a model guide usually asks for. Your guide’s exact steps override it.

- Match the guide to the device. Confirm that the model, variant, and part number in the guide match your tablet. Stop if they do not.
- Power off and disconnect accessories. Where the guide requires it, fully discharge the battery before you start.
- Follow the opening sequence in order. Remove the display, battery, or enclosure only as the guide describes, and use the method it specifies. Do not apply heat or adhesive-softening methods that the guide does not describe.
- Photograph each connection before disconnecting it. Flex and coaxial cables are the most common place to damage a repair.
- Install the new part and reconnect everything. Use the screws and adhesive the guide specifies.
- Test before sealing. Check charging and data transfer with your known-good cable. Seal the device only after the test passes, and only where the guide allows it.
When to stop and call a technician
- The port is soldered to the main board, or the guide describes board-level work.
- The manufacturer directs the connector procedure to authorized service technicians, as Dell does for the RA00260.
- The display is bonded or fragile, and the guide warns that the display can be damaged during removal.
- The battery is swollen, punctured, or otherwise damaged. Samsung UK support states: “Your tablet has a sealed battery compartment and you should not try to remove or replace your battery yourself.” That statement covers battery replacement, not every charging-port repair, but it is a clear signal to stop if battery work is involved.
- Corrosion is present, or debris remains after careful cleaning.
- The instructions do not match the device in your hands.
Water resistance and warranty
A port repair can remove the tablet’s water resistance. The iFixit guide for the Galaxy Tab S7+ Wi-Fi states that water resistance may not be retained after repair. Samsung’s self-repair guidance also warns that improper repair may affect warranty coverage. Check your warranty terms before opening a device that is still covered.
