Samsung refrigerators use different ice components, so there is no universal removal method. First identify whether you have a small ice tray, a removable ice bucket, or an ice maker cover; then use the method that matches your design. If it does not match, check the manual for your refrigerator’s full model number before pulling on anything.
Identify the part before removing it
- Ice tray: A small mold that holds water or cubes. Removing cubes from a tray is different from removing the ice maker itself.
- Ice bucket: A container that collects finished cubes, often below or in front of the ice maker.
- Ice maker cover: A housing cover. Taking off the cover does not mean the powered ice maker assembly is meant to be removed.
Samsung says designs vary by model. Its freezer-door ice-bucket guidance, troubleshooting instructions, and regional support articles describe different mechanisms, not one procedure for every refrigerator.
Remove the part that matches your ice maker
Freezer-door ice bucket with a side handle
For the newer freezer-door design documented by Samsung US, use the handle on the side to remove the ice bucket. When putting it back, Samsung says the bucket should click into place. Do not assume this handle method applies to a different layout.
Older design with an ice maker cover
On the older design in the same Samsung US guidance, hold both handgrips, gently lift the ice maker cover, and slowly pull it out. This is a cover-removal instruction, not a direction to pull out the powered ice maker assembly.

Top-mount freezer tray-type ice maker
Samsung India’s instructions for a top-mount tray-type ice maker describe taking out the tray, holding both ends, and twisting it gently to release the cubes. The gentle twist is for cube release from this tray; it is not a method for removing an entire powered ice maker. See Samsung India’s tray-type instructions.
Dual ice maker with a sliding bucket tray
For the dual ice maker described by Samsung Canada, slide the ice bucket tray out to remove ice, then slide it back in. Accessories and layouts vary, so use the model manual if your tray does not move that way. Samsung’s dual ice maker guidance applies to the design it describes.

If the bucket will not come out
Stop if the bucket resists; do not yank it or try to loosen it with a hair dryer. Samsung US says a bucket that cannot be removed easily is likely frozen and advises contacting support for service. Its ice maker troubleshooting also says an ice maker frozen over with a sheet of ice requires service rather than an attempted defrost.
Samsung Gulf gives separate advice for a frozen bucket: let it defrost naturally, then try a gentle upward lift and pull. Do not use sharp tools or a heat source. If a white wire is hanging from the ice maker, do not touch it; contact Samsung Support. See Samsung Gulf’s stuck-bucket guidance. Regional advice may differ, so follow the manual and support channel for your exact model.

Find the right manual or replacement part
Look up the refrigerator by its full model number when the part or release motion does not match these examples. The cited Samsung guidance confirms that bucket and tray designs differ, but does not identify one replacement part that fits all Samsung refrigerators. If a tray or bucket is damaged or missing, use the full model number to check compatibility before ordering.
