To remove split screen on a Samsung Galaxy Tab A7, open Recents from the navigation bar and tap X to close split-screen view and exit. If you would rather keep both apps open, drag the divider between them until one app fills the screen. Samsung notes that screens and settings can vary by wireless service provider and software version, so button labels and positions may differ slightly on your tablet.
Exit split screen with Recents
This is the most direct method in Samsung’s current tablet multitasking instructions.
- Tap Recents in the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap X to close split-screen view and exit.
Samsung’s tablet support page is the source for this route. If the labels on your Tab A7 differ, look for a close or exit control on the split-screen view itself.
Return one app to full screen by moving the divider
When both apps are visible, the thin separator between them can be used to give one app the whole display. The direction depends on the layout you are in, so check which way the divider moves on your screen.

- Samsung’s general troubleshooting guidance (written for Galaxy phones) says to press and hold the separator, then drag it to the top or bottom edge of the screen.
- A Three carrier guide for the Galaxy Tab A7 4G Wi-Fi 2020 says to drag the divider left or right. This applies to that carrier-supplied model and may not match every Tab A7 configuration.
Use the drag that moves the app you want to keep to full screen. If the divider does not respond, switch to the Recents method above.
Stop split screen from reappearing
If split screen keeps opening by itself, it is usually triggered by a swipe gesture. Samsung’s troubleshooting page describes turning these off on devices that expose the controls:

- Compatibility: Checking the size and model of our tablet before buying can effectively avoid the trouble of buying the wrong one. This protective case is only compatible with Galaxy Tab A7 10.4 Inch 2020/ 2022 Released. Model: SM-T500/ T503/ T505/ T507/ T509.
- Protection: Keeping our expensive tablets from being damaged by accidentally drops, scratches, shocks - Multi-layer protection from the inner shell, outer slipcover, built-in screen protector. In addition, we also provide a spare front cover without screen protector, which can be used when we already have the tempered glass film. The weight of the heavy duty case is 400g.
- Functionality: When we are recording something or drawing with one hand, we need a hand strap to help us hold the tablet firmly to prevent accidental drops. The stand is something we can't live without, we need it to support the tablet so that we can watch or type. And the stylus holder is very essential, we will avoid the trouble finding our S Pen everywhere.
- Portability: When we are an engineer on a construction site or a waiter in a restaurant, we often need to use a tablet, but we can't let it tie our hands. At this time, we really need a shoulder strap to free our hands. Not only that, it can be hung in any places. For example, hanging on the back seat of a car to creates a mini theater for kids. The shoulder strap is detachable and adjustable in length up to 49 inches.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Advanced features, then tap Multi window.
- Switch off Swipe for split screen and Swipe for pop-up view.
That page is written for Galaxy phones, so menu names and gesture options may differ on your tablet. If the path above is not there, search Settings for “Multi window.” Turning off these gestures stops accidental activation but does not remove manual split-screen use, so you can still open split screen from Recents when you want it.

Know the limits
- Not every app supports split screen. Samsung’s tablet support page states, “Not all apps support split screen view.” If an app will not open in split view, that is expected behavior, not a fault in your tablet.
- Menu layouts can change with software updates and carrier builds, so if a path above differs, rely on the closest matching label in Settings rather than assuming a menu is missing.
The model’s official support pages, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Wi-Fi support page, can confirm the exact model and software details for your device.
