Release one Pokémon in the iPhone app

Open Pokémon HOME and go to the Pokémon or Box view. Pokémon HOME is available as a mobile app; Pokémon Support directs iPhone users to download it from the App Store (official iOS setup instructions).

Select the Pokémon you want to remove. Community reports describe pressing and holding a Pokémon to select it, then opening the three-dot menu and choosing the release action (community-reported steps). Those reports date from 2020, so the menu placement or wording may have changed.

Make sure you are using the right HOME account
If you also use Pokémon HOME on Nintendo Switch, linking the same Nintendo Account in the mobile app gives access to the same Boxes. Pokémon Support warns that the account must be linked correctly during setup; consult its setup instructions if the Boxes do not match. Nintendo likewise describes HOME as a cloud service available on Switch and compatible mobile devices, with the same account accessing the same Boxes (Nintendo’s Pokémon HOME page).
