Register through South Carolina’s online voter-registration system, by submitting the state form to York County, or in person. Use your residence address, then check your voter record and sample ballot: Rock Hill mailing addresses do not by themselves establish eligibility for Rock Hill School District No. 3 elections.
Choose a registration method
| Method | What you need | How to submit |
|---|---|---|
| Online | A South Carolina driver’s license or DMV ID. If you have moved, update your residential address with DMV before applying online. | Use the South Carolina voter registration system. |
| Mail, email, or fax | The completed South Carolina voter registration form. The state says applicants registering by mail should provide a copy of a current, valid photo ID or an eligible document showing their name and county address. | Send the form to the York County Board of Voter Registration and Elections. |
| In person | The state says applicants registering in person should provide a copy of a current, valid photo ID or an eligible document showing their name and county address. | Visit the York County election office or a listed National Voter Registration Act agency, including DMV. York County’s office is at 6 South Congress Street, Level 1, Suite 1201, York, SC 29745; its published phone is 803-684-1242. Check the county office page for current hours. |
Eligible documents for mail or in-person registration include a utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, or government document showing your name and address in the county. These are alternatives to the photo-ID copy described by the state; they are separate from the DMV credential required for online registration.
Check eligibility and the deadline
South Carolina requires voters to be U.S. citizens, at least 18 by the next election, and residents of the South Carolina county and precinct where they register. State rules also disqualify some people under competency or criminal-conviction provisions. The state says there is no minimum residency period before registering, but registration generally must be completed at least 30 days before an election. South Carolina does not register voters by party. See the State Election Commission’s registration guidance.
Deadlines for the November 3, 2026 general election
York County lists the following registration deadlines for that election:
#1 Best Overall
- In person: Friday, October 2, 2026, by 5:00 p.m.
- Online: Sunday, October 4, 2026, by 11:59 p.m.
- Mail application: USPS postmark by Monday, October 5, 2026.
These dates apply to the November 3, 2026 statewide general election only, not automatically to a later school-board election. Check the South Carolina State Election Commission and York County election calendar for the relevant contest. The state’s general rule is registration at least 30 days before an election, with a mail-postmark extension when the deadline falls on a Sunday or USPS holiday. The election-specific dates are published on York County’s 2026 Statewide General Election page.
Use your residence address and keep your record current
Register at the address where you reside, not merely an address that uses “Rock Hill” as its mailing city. If you move within York County or change your name, update your voter record. If you move to another county, you must register again in the new county. For an online address change, update your residential address with DMV first.
Rank #2
After registering or updating your information, use the state’s voter lookup to confirm your registration, precinct, election districts, and ballot information. A voter-registration card also shows the precinct and election districts associated with the registered address.
Confirm which Rock Hill school-board contests are on your ballot
York County has four nonpartisan school districts: York, Clover, Rock Hill, and Fort Mill. The relevant boundary for a Rock Hill School District No. 3 trustee election is the school district, not the city or mailing address. Eligibility for individual trustee seats is tied to the voter’s registration address; at-large trustee seats are voted on by all voters in the district.
Rank #3
York County’s current candidate-filing page lists Rock Hill trustee seats 2, 4, and at-large for the 2026 general election. The county’s school-board page describes a cycle pattern of seats 1, 3, 5, and at-large in presidential years, and seats 2, 4, and at-large in gubernatorial years. Treat those cycle descriptions as guidance, not as a substitute for the ballot for a specific election: confirm your contests with the official voter lookup and sample ballot. The county’s school-board information and candidate-filing page list district and filing details.
Quick Recap
Update or verify an existing registration
- Open the South Carolina voter lookup and check your record and ballot information.
- If your name or address within York County has changed, submit an update through the state system or by the county’s accepted registration methods.
- If you moved to a different county, register in that county rather than relying on your former York County registration.
- Review the sample ballot for the election in question to confirm whether your address is in Rock Hill School District No. 3 and which trustee seats you may vote for.
