To recover deleted photos with Dr.Fone, first check whether a copy is still in Recently Deleted, a backup, or a synced cloud source. If you use Android, Dr.Fone’s desktop workflow can scan a connected phone; on iPhone, you can check supported device and backup sources. Act quickly and avoid using the phone: recovery is not guaranteed, especially if deleted data has been overwritten.
Before you start: stop using the phone and check for another copy
Deleted data may remain in storage until new data overwrites it. Dr.Fone advises stopping phone use and attempting recovery promptly, but that is vendor guidance—not a quantified or independently verified success rate. Avoid taking new photos, installing apps, downloading files, or resetting the device while you decide what to try. Recovery may be impossible if the data has already been overwritten. Dr.Fone’s recovery FAQs explain this limitation.
On iPhone, check Apple’s Recently Deleted location before running a scan. If the photos are no longer there, look for a copy in iCloud-synced data or iCloud Drive, an iCloud Backup, or a local/iTunes backup made before the deletion. A backup is useful only if it contains the photos; restoring a whole backup can also replace newer data on the phone, so check what the restore would affect before proceeding.
Recover deleted photos from Android with Dr.Fone
- Connect the phone: Install and open Dr.Fone on a computer, then connect the Android phone with a compatible USB data cable. The cable must support data, not just charging.
- Choose the recovery workflow: In Dr.Fone, open Data Recovery, select Photos, and choose the scan mode the program offers for your device.
- Scan and review: Let the scan finish. Its duration depends on storage and the selected file types. Preview the results and select the photos you want.
- Recover selected files: Use the program’s recovery or export option for the photos you chose. Check the current in-app terms before relying on the trial: scanning and previewing may be available without payment, while exporting or recovering typically requires a paid license.
These steps follow Dr.Fone’s Android recovery workflow. Available features depend on the phone model, Android version, data type, and scan mode. The vendor’s descriptions of Android access requirements differ by workflow: some internal-storage cases may need elevated access, and support materials also discuss root access. Follow the device-specific prompts and confirm support for your model rather than assuming internal-storage recovery will work without root.

Recover deleted photos from iPhone with Dr.Fone
Try the available copies in this order before treating a device scan as the only option:
- Check Recently Deleted. If the photos are there, use the iPhone’s built-in recovery option.
- Check synced sources. Look in iCloud-synced Photos or iCloud Drive, as applicable.
- Check backups. Look for an iCloud Backup or local/iTunes backup from before the photos were deleted.
- Use Dr.Fone for a supported source. Dr.Fone describes scanning supported iOS devices and available backup or cloud sources, then previewing supported data and selectively exporting or recovering it. The usable path depends on the device’s condition, iOS version, and where a copy remains.
See Dr.Fone’s iPhone recovery page for the sources and workflows it describes. Trial access may let you scan and preview, but recovery or export typically requires a paid license; the terms can vary by mode and device. Verify the current terms in the program before paying.

When Dr.Fone may not be able to recover the photos
- The deleted space has been reused: New data can overwrite deleted files, reducing or eliminating the chance of recovery.
- The phone or recovery mode is unsupported: Model, operating-system version, data type, and access requirements affect whether a scan is available. Confirm compatibility for the exact device.
- The phone cannot communicate with the computer: Desktop software cannot directly scan a device it cannot access. Check cloud and backup copies instead.
- The phone is completely dead: Dr.Fone says it cannot directly scan a completely dead iPhone; if no backup or synced copy exists, professional hardware recovery may be needed. No recovery provider is identified here, and hardware recovery is not assured.
Dr.Fone does not establish a guaranteed result for permanently deleted photos. A scan that finds no files does not prove that every possible backup or synced source has been checked.

What to compare before choosing a recovery path
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Recovery source | Device storage, a local backup, iCloud Backup, synced cloud data, and iCloud Drive are distinct sources. Choose a path where a copy could still exist. |
| Phone recognition and condition | A computer scan requires an accessible device; an unrecognized or dead phone may leave backups or professional hardware recovery as the remaining options. |
| Model and OS support | Dr.Fone’s available features and access requirements vary by device and workflow. Verify compatibility before relying on a scan. |
| Preview versus recovery | A trial may allow scanning and previewing without letting you export or recover files. Check the current license terms for your specific mode. |
| Possibility of overwriting | Continued phone use can write data to storage that may have held deleted files, so delay can reduce recovery chances. |
