Start with Samsung Gallery’s Recycle bin, then check My Files’ Recycle bin and Google Photos’ Trash. If the pictures are no longer there, look for a copy in OneDrive or restore a Samsung Cloud or Smart Switch backup made before deletion. Recovery depends on an existing bin entry or copy; Samsung and Google do not promise restoration of permanently deleted, unbacked photos.
Restore a photo from Samsung Gallery’s Recycle bin
- Open Gallery.
- Tap Menu, then Recycle bin. Depending on your Galaxy model and software version, the menu labels or bin availability may differ.
- Select the photos you want and tap Restore.
Samsung says deleted Gallery items remain in the bin for 30 days before permanent deletion. The instructions are based on Samsung support guidance for Galaxy devices; see its June 18, 2026, Canada support article and its UK recovery guide.
Check My Files separately
Gallery and My Files are separate places to check. Open My Files > Recycle bin, select the relevant files, and choose Restore. Samsung also describes a Storage management view that can show deleted items by app. Menu names and availability vary by device and One UI version; consult Samsung’s Galaxy Recycle bin guidance.
Look in Google Photos Trash
- Open Google Photos and confirm you are signed in to the Google account that backed up the pictures.
- Open Trash.
- Select any available pictures and choose Restore.
Google’s current Photos Help page says deleted items remain in Trash for 30 days. Samsung’s UK guide, updated June 20, 2026, says 60 days, so published guidance conflicts. Check the Trash in the correct account for whether a particular photo is still available rather than relying on a universal retention period.

Check OneDrive for previously synced photos
If you used Samsung Gallery–OneDrive synchronization, open the OneDrive app and check Photos for a retained copy. Samsung says Gallery–OneDrive synchronization ended on September 30, 2026, but files synchronized before the end date remain in OneDrive. You can also check OneDrive’s Recycle bin for deleted cloud files. Samsung says OneDrive Camera Backup remains available for saving future photos; it is separate from the discontinued Gallery sync. Restore a backup that contains the photos
Samsung Cloud
If a Samsung-account backup made before deletion includes the pictures, open Settings > Samsung account > Samsung Cloud > Restore data and follow the prompts to restore the relevant backup data.

Smart Switch
If you backed up the phone to a PC, Mac, or supported external storage, use Smart Switch to restore that backup. Photos are among the categories you can select. Samsung’s US backup and restore instructions cover these options. A backup only helps if it already contains the missing pictures; it cannot recreate unbacked data.

If the bins are empty and you have no suitable backup, look for a duplicate rather than assuming a recovery app can bring the original back. Samsung suggests checking messaging apps and folders in My Files. Also search Downloads, Pictures, and Videos, along with other signed-in cloud accounts, computers, and devices where you may have copied or shared the photo.

Samsung says native recovery is no longer possible in the cases described when more than 30 days have passed or the recycle bins were emptied. Google likewise says permanently deleted Photos items cannot be restored. Neither source promises recovery when no bin entry or copy remains.
