If you can open the email inbox linked to your PlayStation account, go to Account Management, select Trouble Signing In? > Recover Your Account, and follow the secure link Sony sends you. If you cannot access that email, have forgotten the sign-in address, cannot use your registered verification method, or suspect someone changed your account, contact PlayStation Support through its Online Assistant. The available help flow can vary by account country, so use the PlayStation support site for your region.
Choose the recovery route that matches what you can access
Your PlayStation sign-in ID is the email address used for the account. The recovery route depends on whether you can open that inbox, use a registered passkey or 2-step verification method, and whether the account may have been changed without your permission.

Recover the account through email
- Open PlayStation Account Management and choose Trouble Signing In? > Recover Your Account.
- Enter the account’s sign-in email if prompted and request the recovery email.
- Allow a few minutes for Sony’s secure link to arrive. Check that you are looking in the inbox for the email address actually used to sign in.
- Open the link and follow the instructions on screen to restore access.
If no message arrives, confirm the address and inbox are correct and check any relevant mail folders. If you cannot access the mailbox or do not know which address is attached to the account, Sony directs you to its Online Assistant rather than offering a general bypass.
What information to have ready
- The sign-in ID: the email address used for the PlayStation account. If you do not know it or cannot access it, the published support flow points to the Online Assistant.
- Access to that email inbox: Sony sends a secure recovery link there when you use the email route.
- Your passkey device or registered verification method, if applicable: an alternate device may still work if it has the same verification method registered.
- A saved 2-step verification backup code, if applicable: Sony provides 10 backup codes, each usable once. Save them when setting up 2-step verification. See PlayStation’s 2-step verification guidance.
- Any account information Sony requests in your support case: PlayStation does not publish one fixed identity-check list for every recovery. A receipt, console serial number, payment card, or purchase detail is not stated as a universal requirement; follow the prompts in your case.
If you lost your passkey device or 2-step verification phone
Passkey
Try signing in with another device that has the same registered verification method. Sony says that if this works, you can register a new passkey. If no usable device remains, contact the Online Assistant.

2-step verification
If the normal SMS or authenticator route is unavailable, enter a saved backup code when prompted. Each code works once. Without a remaining code or access to the registered phone or number, contact PlayStation Support through the Online Assistant.
If you forgot your PSN email or cannot access it
Use the Online Assistant if you forgot the sign-in email, lost access to that mailbox, or cannot provide account verification information. Sony’s published guidance does not offer a universal email-free reset route. Help prompts and support eligibility may depend on the country associated with your account and the details of your case.

If your PlayStation account may have been hacked
Treat an unfamiliar sign-in ID, online ID, password change, or other change you did not make as possible account compromise. If you receive an account-change email you do not recognize, Sony advises changing the password for the email account tied to PlayStation, then recovering the PlayStation account and contacting support.

- Attempt the appropriate PlayStation recovery route and contact Sony through the Online Assistant if you cannot regain access or see unauthorized changes.
- After recovering access, review account security and payment methods. If a console has been stolen, Sony’s guidance includes signing out from devices, deactivating the console, and removing payment methods as appropriate.
Sony describes 2-step verification as adding “a second layer of security to your account.” Do not give your credentials to third parties or pay unofficial account-recovery sellers; use PlayStation’s official support route.

If you know the password but still cannot sign in
Check whether the sign-in email has been verified, confirm you are entering the email address used for the account, update console software where applicable, and check for connection problems. If sign-in still fails, use the PlayStation sign-in troubleshooting guide and its support options.

Sony also documents password-setting menus on PS5 and PS4. These console menu instructions are separate from the email-based account recovery route: use the recovery flow when you need Sony to send a secure link to the account email.
