Use Samsung’s Voice Recorder app to capture a voice memo, listen to it, organize it, and share it. You can record through the phone’s built-in microphone, and Samsung also lists Bluetooth headsets and compatible external microphones as possible inputs; what works depends on your Galaxy model. On supported devices, Voice Recorder may also offer Galaxy AI Transcript Assist. Recording a phone call is a separate feature in Samsung’s Phone app and is not available in every country or configuration.
How to make a voice recording
- Open Voice Recorder on your Galaxy phone. If you cannot find it, check whether it is installed or needs an update through Samsung’s official app channel.
- Start a new recording in the app and speak toward the phone’s microphone. When you are finished, stop the recording and save it.
- Open the recording list in Voice Recorder to find the saved audio. Samsung’s controls and labels can vary by device and software version, so follow the options shown on your phone.
Samsung’s guide covers recording, playback, organizing saved recordings, and sharing them. See Samsung’s Voice Recorder instructions for its documented workflow.
Choose a microphone for the situation
The phone’s built-in microphone is the straightforward choice for a quick solo memo. Samsung’s Voice Recorder app listing also names a Bluetooth headset and a compatible external microphone as possible recording inputs, while noting that supported features vary by device. The listing does not establish that every headset or microphone works with every Galaxy phone.

| Recording setup | Useful for | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in microphone | Quick notes and nearby speech | Place the phone close enough to the speaker and reduce background noise. |
| Bluetooth headset | Recording when a compatible headset microphone is useful | Confirm that your phone, headset, and app support the intended input. |
| External microphone | Interviews or situations where a separate mic is practical | Check connector type and compatibility with your exact phone before buying or connecting one. |
These are options, not a ranking: Samsung’s listing does not provide comparative sound-quality tests. See the Samsung Voice Recorder app listing for its stated microphone options and device-variation caveat.

Play back, organize, and share a recording
In Voice Recorder, choose a saved recording from the list to play it back. Use the actions available on your device to organize or share the audio. The specific controls and sharing destinations can differ across Galaxy generations and software versions; Samsung’s support walkthrough describes the app’s playback, organization, and sharing tasks.
Transcribe speech with Transcript Assist
On supported Galaxy devices, Galaxy AI Transcript Assist in Voice Recorder can convert recorded speech into text. Availability and steps depend on the device, software, supported language, and region; some functions also have account-related conditions. Samsung’s Transcript Assist guide explains the feature and its workflow.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

- Record clear speech and keep the microphone close to the speaker.
- Reduce background noise where practical.
- Review the generated text against the audio before relying on it. A transcript is not an authoritative record simply because it was produced by the app.
Samsung’s newer One UI 8 guidance says Transcript Assist is limited to the pre-installed Samsung Voice Recorder app or recordings made using the pre-installed Samsung Phone app. The feature is not a general transcription option for any audio file or recorder app.
Voice memos are not phone-call recordings
A memo records audio around the phone; recording a telephone conversation uses a separate function in Samsung’s default Phone app. Samsung says supported call recordings made through that app support two-way recording, but availability is restricted. Its One UI 8 guidance cautions that voice recording in the pre-installed Samsung Phone app may not be supported in some countries. Check the options on your own phone and local recording rules before recording a call.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When a feature or control is missing
- Voice Recorder is not installed or visible: Check Samsung’s official app channel for availability or an update.
- A microphone option does not appear: Device support varies. Verify compatibility for your phone and the connected microphone rather than assuming every input type is supported.
- Transcript Assist is absent: Confirm that your device, software, language, and region support the feature, and that you are using the pre-installed Samsung Voice Recorder for the recording.
- Call recording is absent: Call recording has separate device and country restrictions; the absence of a switch does not mean the voice-memo app is malfunctioning.
Across all of these features, Samsung’s published guidance does not establish one control path or feature set for every Galaxy phone. Check the instructions for your model and software release.
