Samsung Notes can record a lecture while you type, draw, or write, then synchronize note activity with the audio so you can revisit what was said around a point in your notes. On a supported Galaxy phone or tablet, start from a note and choose Insert > Voice recording. This can help fill in context when a note is sparse; it does not replace listening, choosing what matters, or checking important details.
Record a lecture while taking notes

Open Samsung Notes and create a note.

Tap Insert (the plus icon), then choose Voice recording. Samsung Notes starts recording and displays a timer.

Keep taking notes as the audio records: type, draw with a finger, or write with an S Pen.

Tap Stop when you are done. The recording is saved in the note.

Expand the audio timeline and tap Play to review the recording alongside your note.
Samsung says note activity is synchronized with the audio. During playback, the app can animate and scroll through the note; you can also move along the timeline to seek forward or backward. See Samsung’s instructions for syncing voice recordings with Samsung Notes. Labels and available controls can differ by app version.

Use playback to recover context
When a handwritten or typed note leaves out a definition, explanation, or transition, play the recording and use the timeline to find the relevant moment. Samsung documents animated note playback and timeline seeking, but does not claim that every word or idea is captured in the notes. Recording is best treated as a way to revisit what happened, not as a substitute for following the lecture or marking its important points.

If you delete handwritten note content, Samsung warns that you can no longer select its corresponding audio time point. Keep that in mind before cleaning up a note you may want to use for navigation.

Transcripts and summaries depend on device and software
Samsung’s Notes instructions describe opening a transcript from a recording menu and switching to a Summary view. A separate Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 user manual documents additional Voice Recorder and Notes functions, including transcription, summaries, keywords, translation, and transcript editing in that documented device context.
Those documents establish that these tools exist in some configurations, not that every Galaxy model, language, region, or software version has them. If a transcript is available, check names, specialist terms, equations, and any consequential detail against the audio or course materials. Samsung’s documentation does not provide an accuracy rate.

A Galaxy tablet and S Pen are optional
Samsung describes the synchronized workflow for Galaxy phones as well as tablets, and its instructions allow typing, finger drawing, or S Pen writing. You do not need to buy a tablet just to try it if your compatible Galaxy phone already has Samsung Notes and the feature. A tablet with S Pen may suit someone who wants more room for handwritten notes, but check the specific model’s Notes and S Pen support before buying. Samsung’s Galaxy Note and S Pen information describes notes being time-stamped to match a voice recording.
Choose Samsung Notes or Voice Recorder

For the standalone route, open Voice Recorder, start recording, then stop, name, and save the file. Samsung’s Voice Recorder support guide says saved files may be found in My Files under Internal storage > Recordings > Voice Recorder. The menu labels and storage path can vary with the model, software, or app version.

If the recording or transcript option is missing

Update Samsung Notes. Samsung says some features may be unavailable or grayed out without the latest version.

Check whether you are in Samsung Notes or the separate Voice Recorder app; they serve different workflows.

Allow for model and software differences. Samsung notes that screens and settings may vary by device and software version; its Notes support instructions and Note20 guidance both caution that availability or labels can differ.

If recording works but transcript or summary controls do not appear, do not assume the feature is available on that device, language, region, or app version.
