If an airline suspends service to Dubai, first confirm whether your specific flight is cancelled and who issued your ticket. Then ask that airline or ticket issuer to reroute you to your ticketed final destination, including on another carrier if available. Do not go to the airport until your replacement booking is confirmed.
1. Confirm what happened to your flight
Check the airline’s direct message, booking-management page and flight-status page. If you booked through a travel agent or a partner airline, check for a notice from that ticket issuer too. Save the cancellation message and your booking reference.
Dubai Airports’ flight lookup can help you check airport flight information, but it does not confirm the status of your individual booking. Verify your itinerary with the airline or ticket issuer.
2. Contact whoever issued your ticket
If you booked directly with the operating airline, use its manage-booking tool or disruption contact channel. If an agent or partner airline issued the ticket, contact that issuer to request rebooking or refund options. The operating airline may not be able to change an agency-issued ticket directly. flydubai’s disruption guidance, for example, directs customers with bookings made through travel agents or other airlines to those issuers.

The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority’s Passenger Welfare Program, Issue 02, addresses cancellation, including onward carriage on another available flight and an option for return or rerouting within a reasonable period on another airline, subject to availability, or another mutually agreed means and class of carriage. How the program applies depends on the route, operating carrier, circumstances and its scope.

4. Compare the options before accepting one
If the airline offers more than one valid itinerary, compare the details that affect whether you can actually complete the trip:
- Arrival time and connection risk: Consider the full journey to your ticketed final destination, not just the next departure.
- Route and airports: Check whether the option uses another airport and whether you can legally transit or enter each country on the route.
- Ticket and baggage continuity: Confirm that all flights are on a through itinerary and ask whether baggage will be checked through. A separately ticketed self-transfer can leave you responsible for making the connection.
- Costs and refund terms: Ask about fees, fare differences, refund method and any deadline attached to a waiver.
- Assistance: Ask what support is available for meals, accommodation, transport, accessibility needs, children or other vulnerable travelers.
There is no universal fee, fare-difference or refund rule established for every Dubai itinerary. The options depend on the airline, ticket, route, applicable law and any temporary waiver. For example, Cathay Pacific’s Middle East flexibility notice is a carrier-specific, time-limited example; flydubai’s disruption policy sets its own eligibility criteria and says eligible refunds may be issued as vouchers. Ask which exact ticket and travel dates qualify, what the deadline is, and whether a refund would go to the original payment method or be offered as a voucher. Also ask what happens to unused onward or return segments.

- EFFICIENT DESIGN: Medium size Best for 1-2 week trips; measures 17.8 x 11.3 x 26.8 inches, including wheels
- DURABLE AND RELIABLE: Extra-thick hard shell with scratch-resistant finish guards against impact and rough handling
- EXPANDABLE: Increase packing space up to 15% for added flexibility and organization
- ORGANIZED INTERIOR: Keep essentials organized with an interior divider and three zippered pockets
- EFFORTLESS TRAVEL: Navigate with ease thanks to four multi-directional wheels, telescoping handle, and short lift handle
Do not assume the airline must refund you in cash or place you on any flight you choose without checking the law and terms that apply to your itinerary. If your trip begins in another jurisdiction, check the relevant regulator’s rules as well as the operating carrier’s obligations. flydubai says its published disruption options do not affect statutory or regulatory rights that may apply to an itinerary; that statement is specific to flydubai.
5. Ask about care if you are delayed or stranded
If the disruption means a long wait or overnight stay, ask the airline what assistance it will provide before paying for arrangements yourself. Under the UAE GCAA Passenger Welfare Program, the stated care provisions include:
Best Value
- SPACIOUS DESIGN: Large size best for 2-3 week trips or vacations; measures 20.7 x 12.6 x 30.7 inches, including wheels
- Anticipated delays of 3–8 hours: Meals, refreshments and appropriate communications.
- Delays of more than 8 hours: Accommodation, meals and refreshments, communications, and transport between the airport and accommodation.
These provisions are subject to the program’s scope and the circumstances of the disruption. The Dubai Airports DWC 2026 conditions also describe airport expectations for passenger information and support during disruption, including staffed check-in and transfer desks that support rebooking, cancellation and refund requests. An airport conditions document does not determine your individual legal rights or replace the airline’s itinerary-specific obligations.
6. Should you go to the airport if your flight is cancelled?
No—not on the assumption that a replacement flight exists. Wait for confirmation from the airline or ticket issuer that the new booking is confirmed. flydubai’s FAQ advises passengers not to travel to the airport without a confirmed booking or official confirmation of rebooking. Check the carrier’s flight status and Dubai Airports’ flight lookup again close to departure, since operating conditions and advice can change.
