To read a TCS earnings release, first identify the fiscal period and accounting basis, then compare revenue on matching time and currency bases, read operating margins with their footnotes, and treat total contract value (TCV) as a demand indicator—not as revenue already earned. Finally, distinguish management’s comments about the outlook from a formal numeric forecast.

The latest results in this guide are TCS’s Q1 FY27 results, released July 9, 2026, for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Figures below are attributed to their reporting periods so annual, quarterly, sequential, and year-over-year measures are not mistaken for direct comparisons.

Start with the reporting period and accounting basis

TCS labels its fiscal quarters as Q1 for April–June, Q2 for July–September, Q3 for October–December, and Q4 for January–March. Check both the quarter end and the release date before interpreting a headline figure. TCS’s investor calendar lists Q1 FY27 as released July 9, 2026, and Q4 FY26 as released April 9, 2026. Also note the accounting basis. TCS says it adopted Ind AS effective April 1, 2016, and provides an explanatory note on accounting-basis differences. The Q1 FY27 release presents consolidated results according to IFRS, while the FY26 release states Ind AS and IFRS. When comparing historical figures, keep the basis visible rather than assuming every published number is presented identically. TCS investor relations

Read revenue with its comparison period and currency

Revenue is the amount of business recorded in a period. A growth percentage is meaningful only when its comparison period and currency basis are clear. Year-over-year (YoY) compares a quarter or year with the same period a year earlier. Sequential growth compares a quarter with the immediately preceding quarter. Reported-currency growth can differ from constant-currency growth because exchange-rate movements affect translated values.

TCS reported Q1 FY27 revenue of US$7,624 million: up 2.7% YoY in US dollars, flat sequentially in US dollars, and up 0.4% sequentially in constant currency. These are distinct comparisons, not competing versions of one growth rate. TCS Q1 FY27 results

In Q4 FY26, revenue was US$7,621 million, up 1.5% sequentially in dollars and 1.2% sequentially in constant currency. The Q4 sequential figures should not be compared as though they were annual growth rates. TCS Q4/FY26 results

  • For a year-over-year trend, compare the same fiscal quarter with the same quarter a year earlier.
  • For sequential momentum, compare adjacent quarters and label the comparison as sequential.
  • State whether the figure is in reported dollars or constant currency; do not substitute one basis for the other.

Interpret operating margin with the footnote attached

Operating margin expresses operating profit as a share of revenue. It helps show how much operating profit the company generated relative to the revenue recorded, but the stated treatment of one-offs or exceptional items matters.

TCS reported Q1 FY27 operating margin of 24.0%, excluding an exceptional item. For FY26, it reported a 25% operating margin, up 70 basis points YoY and excluding one-offs. These figures cover different reporting intervals and carry different qualifications; they should not be presented as a like-for-like quarter-to-year comparison. TCS Q1 FY27 results TCS Q4/FY26 results

When checking a margin trend, compare the same type of period and read the release’s footnote before concluding that a change reflects underlying operations. A percentage without its exclusion or adjustment can give a misleading impression of comparability.

Use TCV and deal announcements as demand signals

TCS uses total contract value (TCV) to report the value of contracts won. TCV can indicate awarded work and potential future workload, but it is not revenue recognized in the quarter. Do not add TCV to quarterly revenue or describe a deal’s full contract value as sales already recorded.

TCS reported Q1 FY27 TCV of US$9.5 billion and announced an US$800 million global AI-led business transformation deal with SKF. For comparison within the company’s reporting, FY26 TCV was US$40.7 billion and Q4 FY26 TCV was US$12 billion. TCS Q1 FY27 results TCS Q4/FY26 results

A large award is notable, but it does not by itself establish when or how much revenue will be recognized. Put deal announcements alongside period TCV, revenue trends, and delivery over time. TCS also reported three mega deals in Q4 FY26 and five for FY26; those counts describe awards, not a guaranteed revenue schedule. TCS Q4/FY26 results

Distinguish management outlook from numeric guidance

Management commentary can describe demand, risks, strategic priorities, or confidence without giving a formal forecast. In its Q1 FY27 release, CEO and Managing Director K Krithivasan said, “Q1 FY27 reflects continued growth momentum and the strength of our strategic positioning, despite geopolitical and macro-economic headwinds.” The comments also discuss customer technology investment and the broader operating environment. TCS Q1 FY27 results

The Q1 FY27 material cited here does not establish a numeric forward revenue or margin forecast. Therefore, describe those statements as qualitative outlook, not as formal numeric guidance. A growth-oriented comment is not a commitment to a particular future growth rate.

A practical checklist for one TCS release

  1. Identify the period: note the fiscal quarter or full year, its end date, and the release date.
  2. Check the basis: record the accounting standard and whether consolidated results are presented under IFRS, Ind AS, or both.
  3. Label revenue comparisons: distinguish YoY from sequential growth and reported currency from constant currency.
  4. Read the margin qualification: keep any exceptional-item or one-off exclusion next to the operating-margin figure.
  5. Keep awards separate: report TCV and named contract values as contract measures, not as revenue recognized in that period.
  6. Classify outlook language: separate management’s qualitative comments from an explicit numeric forecast.

For current filings and quarter-by-quarter materials, use TCS’s investor-relations pages and confirm that a newer release has not superseded the figures cited here.
