To read a listed Indian company’s filings, first find its exchange record by company name or symbol, then check the period, filing date and revision status, audit status, and whether the statements are standalone or consolidated. For an auditor appointment or resignation, read the announcement and attachment alongside the AGM notice and annual report. An exchange posting makes a disclosure available; it does not mean the exchange verified its accuracy.
Find the company’s filings on NSE or BSE
Start with the issuer’s listed name or symbol. SEBI’s corporate-filings directory maps common disclosure categories to the relevant NSE and BSE pages. For results, NSE provides a search page that accepts a company name or symbol, with period filters and data-download and XBRL tools: NSE financial results. NSE also provides dedicated pages for integrated filings and annual reports.
Search the company’s corporate announcements for an auditor-related event. Use the event notice and its attachment rather than relying on a search result or short preview. For financial results, open the filing detail and inspect the full attachment; if an XBRL record is available, treat it as another way to examine the submitted data, not a substitute for understanding the filing’s basis and status.

Check the filing record before interpreting results
Before comparing figures or drawing conclusions, record the filing context shown on the exchange page. NSE’s integrated-filing interface displays period end, submission type, audit status, reporting basis, broadcast time, revision information, and links to details and XBRL. A sample filing likewise identifies the reporting period, audit status, and basis. See the integrated-filing page and sample filing record.

- Submission time and revision: note when the filing was broadcast or submitted and whether it is original or revised. Check the revision history rather than treating an earlier version as final.
- Audit status: distinguish audited results from unaudited results.
- Reporting basis: establish whether figures are standalone or consolidated. They cover different scopes and should not be compared as if they were the same measure.

Trace an auditor appointment or resignation
Appointment or reappointment
Read the company’s exchange announcement and attached document, then check the annual report’s auditor details and the AGM notice if shareholders are being asked to approve an appointment or reappointment. SEBI says the audit committee recommends the auditor’s appointment, remuneration, and terms of appointment, and monitors auditor independence and performance. AGM notices should disclose the proposed appointment or reappointment terms. These roles and disclosure expectations are described in SEBI’s October 18, 2019 circular on resignation of statutory auditors.
Resignation
For a listed entity’s statutory auditor resignation, SEBI says the company must disclose the detailed reasons provided by the auditor to the exchanges as soon as possible and no later than 24 hours after receiving those reasons. Read the company’s announcement and the auditor’s stated reasons together; a resignation notice by itself does not establish why the auditor left beyond what the documents say.

Additional quarter-specific limited-review or audit-report conditions can apply to resignations by statutory auditors of listed entities and material subsidiaries. Check the current consolidated regulations and circular text before assessing a specific resignation: consult the 2019 circular and SEBI’s May 2024 master circular.
Understand what an exchange filing does—and does not—prove
An exchange page is a channel for discovering and disseminating company disclosures. NSE says that information uploaded by companies is displayed without the exchange verifying its adequacy, accuracy, or veracity; the company is responsible for omissions, errors, or misrepresentations in its submission. See NSE’s disclaimer.

- Helps you budget and track personal spending
- Offers weekly and monthly tracking in a ledger-style format
- Includes yearly summary
That means an exchange listing confirms that the filing was published through that channel, not that its contents were independently validated by the exchange. For a fuller picture, check the original source document, signed auditor report, revision history, and related company materials. SEBI’s October 18, 2019 circular says listed companies must make timely disclosures to investors to enable informed investment decisions; timely publication and independent verification are separate matters.

- Compare filing dates and whether each filing is original or revised.
- Match standalone statements with standalone statements, and consolidated with consolidated.
- Check whether each set of results is audited or unaudited.
- For an auditor change, compare the auditor’s identity and the stated appointment terms across the announcement, AGM notice, and annual report.
- Read the auditor’s opinion and identify any qualification; inspect any attached statement about the impact of an audit qualification.
These checks help identify differences that merit closer review. They do not, on their own, establish fraud, negligence, or legal noncompliance. A conclusion about a particular company requires its actual announcement, AGM notice, annual report, complete statements and auditor report, later revisions, and the rules applicable to that event.
