For an on-demand podcast archive, connect your show’s RSS feed to a podcast in YouTube Studio. YouTube can import selected back-catalog episodes, turn them into videos using your show artwork, order a serial archive oldest to newest, and automatically upload new episodes from the feed. India is a supported location for RSS delivery, subject to the channel owner’s location eligibility. This creates a podcast playlist listeners can play in sequence; it does not make the archive a continuous live broadcast.
Choose the right YouTube workflow
YouTube treats a podcast show as a playlist and its episodes as videos in that playlist. RSS delivery is the relevant option when listeners should be able to open your archive and play episodes on demand without you uploading each one manually.
| Workflow | Best for | Automation and order | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| RSS-delivered podcast playlist | An on-demand archive that listeners can play in sequence | Import selected back-catalog episodes from RSS, set the playlist order in Studio, and automatically upload future feed episodes | Not a live broadcast; imported back-catalog episodes do not notify subscribers, and replacing feed audio does not update an existing video automatically |
| Encoder-based scheduled live stream | A broadcast of prerecorded or live material at a particular time | Schedule a stream in YouTube Studio and send the live feed from an encoder | A separate production workflow; YouTube’s RSS documentation does not describe turning an archive into a continuous live stream |
For an encoder broadcast, YouTube requires a stream URL and key. Streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. That is distinct from importing and organizing podcast episodes through RSS.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBefore connecting the RSS feed
- Check location eligibility. YouTube lists India as a supported location for RSS feed delivery. Eligibility follows the channel owner’s location, not simply the location of the audience.
- Use a feed you can verify. YouTube sends a verification code to the email address listed in the RSS feed. Make sure you can access it.
- Review ownership and rights. Some playlists may not qualify for podcast features, including content the creator does not own. Copyright policy violations can affect eligibility.
- Know what YouTube creates. YouTube makes episode videos using the show’s artwork; this is not an audio-only MP3 upload workflow. MP3 files alone cannot be used as podcast episodes.
Connect the feed and import the archive
- Open the podcast in YouTube Studio. Create a podcast or select an existing one. For an existing podcast, use Content > Podcasts > [podcast] > Details > RSS settings > Connect to RSS feed.
- Enter the RSS feed and verify ownership. Follow the Studio prompts and enter the code sent to the feed’s listed email address.
- Select the archive episodes. Choose the back-catalog episodes to import. To avoid duplicates, start after the newest episode that is already on YouTube.
- Choose visibility for future episodes. YouTube documents Private, Unlisted, and Public options. Initially selected RSS episodes upload as private, so review them before publishing the podcast.
- Review the imported videos. Check artwork, episode details, audio, monetization settings, and any copyright or policy issues before making episodes public.
- Publish when ready. Back-catalog episodes added through RSS do not notify subscribers. YouTube says eligible subscribers are notified about new episodes automatically uploaded from the feed.
Set the archive to play in the right order
- In YouTube Studio, open Content > Podcasts and select the podcast.
- Open the podcast’s Details and find the default video order setting.
- Choose oldest to newest for a serial show whose episodes build on one another. Change the order later if the show is better presented newest first.
- Check the displayed episode dates. YouTube sorts RSS episodes by release date when one is present; otherwise it uses the YouTube publish date.
Feed release dates are not verified by YouTube. Missing or incorrect dates can therefore affect chronological display even if the default order is set to oldest to newest. Correct the dates in the feed and check the resulting order in Studio.

Keep the feed and YouTube versions in sync
- New episodes: Once connected, new feed episodes are automatically uploaded according to the podcast’s default visibility.
- Changed audio: Editing an episode’s audio in the RSS feed does not automatically replace audio in an already-published YouTube video. Re-upload that episode from RSS if you need the YouTube version updated.
- Other podcast platforms: YouTube’s RSS delivery sends the podcast to YouTube and YouTube Music; it does not distribute the show to other platforms.
- Ads and sponsorships: YouTube says RSS-delivered podcast content cannot contain advertisements. If an episode includes branded content, a host-read promotion, sponsorship, or endorsement, disclose it and follow YouTube’s applicable policies.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
The RSS connection or ownership check fails
Confirm the feed URL works and that you can receive mail at the address listed in the feed. The verification code goes to that address, so access to a different email account will not complete the check.
The podcast RSS option is unavailable
Check the channel owner’s location eligibility; the listener’s location does not determine access. Also review whether the playlist contains material you own and whether copyright policy issues could affect podcast-feature eligibility.

The archive is out of order
Confirm the podcast’s default order in Studio and inspect release dates in the RSS feed. YouTube uses a feed release date when present and falls back to the YouTube publish date when it is absent.

The YouTube episode still has old audio

Listeners cannot find the imported archive
Imported episodes initially upload as private. Review them and publish the podcast when ready; also check the podcast’s visibility settings for future episodes.
