Before monsoon storms arrive, move electronics away from places that can get wet, consider suitable surge protection, and unplug sensitive devices while it is still safe to do so. Once thunder or lightning begins, do not handle plugs or connected equipment. If electronics are exposed to floodwater or become wet, keep them out of service until they are completely dry and a qualified electrician has inspected them.
Prepare electronics before the storm
Move devices away from likely water entry
Keep computers, routers, televisions, chargers, and other sensitive equipment off floors and away from windows, exterior doors, roof leaks, and areas that may flood. This is a practical way to keep electrical equipment out of water; exact placement depends on your home and local flood risk.
Consider suitable surge protection
A surge protective device (SPD) is intended to limit transient overvoltage risk to an electrical installation and connected equipment. The National Weather Service recommends power protection devices for sensitive electronics. Check the product documentation: an ordinary power strip is not necessarily a surge protector. Coverage depends on the device and how it is installed.

Protection options address different parts of a system. A plug-in device protects equipment connected through it; a panel-level SPD is installed as part of the electrical installation. The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) advises confirming compatibility with the manufacturer or installer. Surges may also enter through wired services such as telephone or cable TV, so consider whether those paths are covered. The available guidance does not establish a universal product winner or performance rating.

- SIZE:Fits row plugs length<10". External size: 10.6” x 5.5” x 4.5”. Inner size: 9.8” x 4.7” x 3.4”, 6 cable ports, 4 snaps, 6 cable clamps, 6 rubber gaskets, Perfect for sealing 12/14/16 AWG/3C or fit up to Φ15mm cable(Hand-measured, slight error).
- ADDITIONAL SECURITY: The lid of the outdoor electrical box has a luminous warning label that glows at night to prevent accidentally touching it, ensuring the safety of your family and pets.
- IP54 WATERPROOF: Made of heavy-duty reinforced PP material, it is rigorously tested to IP54 waterproof, high temperature and freezing, can withstand up to 300 lbs. and is resistant to rain, water, snow, dust, dirt.Suitable for protecting outdoor power outlets, row plugs, timers, extension cords, adapters etc.
- WIDE APPLICATIONS:Ideal for a variety of outdoor & indoor applications including patio, lawn and garden power tools, holiday lighting, landscape decorations, pool pumps, fountains, fish ponds, patio heaters, hot tub, air conditioners, security cameras and more.

Surge protection is not outage backup. A UPS may provide temporary battery power, but no particular model or runtime is established here. Nor does an SPD prevent flood damage: keeping equipment dry and having wet electrical equipment inspected address a separate hazard.
Disconnect devices before lightning arrives
If lightning is forecast, unplug sensitive electronics before the storm reaches your area, but only if you can do so safely. The National Weather Service recommends disconnecting electronics before a storm. Do not wait until thunder or lightning is underway: the agency says typical surge protectors will not protect equipment from a lightning strike.

What to do during a thunderstorm
- Do not touch plugs, cords, wiring, or connected electronic equipment, and do not try to unplug devices once lightning is occurring. CDC guidance says to avoid using equipment connected to an electrical outlet during a thunderstorm.
- Avoid contact with plumbing, including showers, sinks, and washing dishes.
- Do not treat a surge protector as a guarantee against lightning damage or as a reason to handle equipment during a storm.
What to do if water reaches electrical equipment
Stay out of standing water
Do not operate electrical equipment while standing in water, and do not enter standing water to reach a breaker. If circuits or equipment are wet or are in or near water, shut off power only if the panel is reachable without entering standing water. Otherwise, contact an electrician or emergency personnel.

Do not switch power back on or use an appliance simply because its exterior looks dry. CDC says, “All electrical equipment and appliances must be completely dry before returning them to service,” and recommends inspection by a qualified electrician when there is any question about safety.

The monsoon-specific advice comes from the National Weather Service office in Tucson, so local storm timing and electrical requirements may differ elsewhere. CDC and IET guidance supports general electrical-safety principles, not a universal installation code or model-level product recommendation. No cited figure establishes monsoon-season electronics losses or how effective a surge protector is at preventing them.
