You can’t use Android’s built-in tools to secretly monitor someone else’s phone. Google Play requires monitoring apps to disclose what they do and obtain consent, and says they must not pose as secret-surveillance tools. If you’re asking because you suspect someone is monitoring your phone, use the checks below to distinguish app or account access from a separate physical tracker.
Why covert monitoring is not an Android feature
Google Play defines stalkerware as “Code that collects personal or sensitive user data from a device and transmits the data to a third party (enterprise or another individual) for monitoring purposes.” Its policy says apps “must provide adequate prominent disclosure and obtain consent as required by the User Data policy” and “must not present themselves as a spying or secret surveillance solution.” Read Google Play’s malware and monitoring-app policy.
This means there is no legitimate, policy-compliant way to make a monitoring app invisible to the person using the phone. This article does not provide instructions for hiding an app, bypassing Android protections, or accessing another person’s device or accounts. Laws vary by location; this is not legal advice.
If you’re worried someone is monitoring your Android phone
First consider what kind of access you suspect. An app or account may expose information from the phone; a Bluetooth tracker is a separate physical device that may be traveling with you. Android’s tracker alerts address certain compatible physical trackers, not spyware apps. Neither a permission review nor a tracker scan proves that a phone is free of monitoring.

Check app permissions and location access
Review which apps can use sensitive data and features, especially location. Android’s settings labels and layout can vary by device and version, so look in Settings for Privacy or Permission manager, then review permissions such as Location. Revoke access an app does not need. This is a useful privacy check, but it cannot establish that an app is spyware or detect every form of account access.
Before installing an app, review its Google Play Data safety section for information about its data practices. That information can help you assess an app, but it is not a guarantee that the app is safe.

Check for compatible physical trackers
Android’s Unknown tracker alerts can notify you when certain compatible Bluetooth trackers appear to be moving with you while separated from their owner’s device. Use Google’s instructions for identifying and responding to unknown trackers to review alerts or run a manual scan. A manual scan can find trackers currently nearby that are separated from their owner’s device.

Consider device integrity and updates
Google warns that modified or rooted Android versions may miss automatic security updates and can allow unapproved apps broader access to device data. That is a security risk, not evidence that a particular device is infected. See Google Account Help on modified or rooted Android versions.

If you think another person could react dangerously to changes on your phone or to a tracker being found, prioritize your safety over investigating. Use a device the person cannot access to contact someone you trust or an appropriate local service. Android’s tracker guidance recommends moving to a safe public place and contacting law enforcement or a trusted contact if you feel at risk.
