To reduce burn-in risk on a QD-OLED monitor, avoid leaving bright, fixed content on screen for long unattended periods, enable the panel-care features available on your exact model, and let the monitor complete its own maintenance when prompted. There is no single refresh schedule or brightness setting that applies to every QD-OLED monitor.
What causes burn-in on a QD-OLED monitor?
Burn-in, also called persistent image retention, can occur when fixed content stays in the same place for an extended period. Samsung warns about static game interfaces, while Dell warns about static images on its Alienware OLED monitors. A desktop taskbar, game HUD, spreadsheet, or application toolbar can all be examples of content that remains in one position.
The cited manufacturers do not establish a universal safe duration for leaving an image displayed. The practical approach is to limit long, unattended periods with an unchanged screen rather than relying on a specific number of minutes or hours.

1. Turn off the display or use a dynamic screensaver when idle
Set your computer to turn off the monitor automatically after inactivity, or use a screensaver that changes what is displayed. Avoid leaving an unchanged desktop or game interface visible while you are away. Samsung’s guidance recommends avoiding fixed images for a long time: Samsung’s OLED monitor troubleshooting guidance.

- ADAPTIVE-SYNC TECHNOLOGY: Eliminate screen tearing and stuttering with Adaptive-Sync compatibility, ensuring a seamless and fluid gaming experience.
2. Enable the protections your monitor provides
Look in the monitor’s on-screen menu or manual for OLED or panel-care settings. Depending on the model, protections may include pixel shift, logo brightness adjustment, screen optimization, or pixel refresh. Not every monitor has every feature, and menu names vary. Samsung describes logo brightness adjustment and screen optimization; ASUS documents logo brightness and Pixel Cleaning; AOC and Philips describe QD-OLED care features such as refresh and static-logo protection.
Use the instructions for your exact model rather than assuming that a feature or setting documented for another monitor is available on yours. Refer to Samsung’s OLED monitor protection guidance, ASUS’s OLED protection and warranty guidance, and the care documents for the relevant AOC AG326UD or Philips QD-OLED monitor.

3. Let maintenance finish without interruption
Some monitors prompt for panel maintenance after accumulated use; others run maintenance after shutdown. Follow the prompt and manual for your model. Samsung warns that turning the monitor on during Pixel Refresh cancels it. ASUS advises not to unplug or power on the display during Pixel Cleaning. When a cycle begins, leave the monitor connected to power and off until the process finishes, unless the model’s own instructions say otherwise.

4. Choose comfortable brightness and use logo controls if available
Logo dimming or brightness adjustment can reduce the prominence of persistent logos on supported monitors. Set brightness to a comfortable level for your room and use the monitor’s built-in logo protection if offered. The manufacturer materials do not establish one numeric brightness percentage that is appropriate for every QD-OLED monitor.
5. Check the warranty and care requirements for your model
Warranty coverage, exclusions, duration, and regional terms vary. Before changing or disabling panel-care features, check the official documentation and warranty that apply to your exact model and location. For example, ASUS publishes model and warranty guidance, while MSI’s MAG 272QP QD-OLED X24 product page describes its OLED Care and warranty information. Do not assume one brand’s burn-in coverage applies to another monitor.

Should you run pixel refresh for an after-image?
A temporary after-image and permanent burn-in are not the same diagnosis. If you notice an after-image, use the manufacturer’s troubleshooting steps rather than repeatedly starting refresh cycles. Samsung recommends Pixel Refresh and says to contact service if the issue persists. ASUS advises leaving the monitor off for a period and using Pixel Cleaning according to its guidance. Follow the steps for your model: Samsung troubleshooting and ASUS OLED protection guidance.
What to compare when choosing a QD-OLED monitor
If you are evaluating models, panel type alone does not tell you how much hands-on care they require. Compare the manufacturer’s published details for the features and policies that matter to your use:
- Panel protections: Check whether the model offers pixel shift, logo dimming, automatic optimization, or manual or automatic refresh.
- Maintenance behavior: Find out when a cycle runs, whether the display must remain off, how it is started, and whether it can be deferred.
- Warranty terms: Verify duration, burn-in coverage, exclusions, regional applicability, and any care conditions.
- Your workload: Consider whether your normal use leaves desktop or application elements in fixed positions for long periods.
Official product and support materials show that care features and warranty conditions differ by monitor. They do not establish a universal prevention schedule or a single best brand.
