You can play The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask on Nintendo Switch through the Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online app, included with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. Download the app from the Nintendo eShop, open it, and select the game. The standard Nintendo Switch Online plan does not include access to this N64 library, and Nintendo says the library is not available in every country. Check Nintendo’s N64 library listing for your region.
What you need to play
- A Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite and a Nintendo Account.
- An active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership on the account you use. Standard Nintendo Switch Online alone does not provide access to the Nintendo 64 Classics library.
- The Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online app, downloaded from the Nintendo eShop.
- A supported Switch controller. The separately sold Nintendo 64-style controller is optional.

How to launch Majora’s Mask
- Sign in to the Switch with the Nintendo Account that has an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.
- Open Nintendo eShop, find Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online, and download the app.
- Launch the N64 app and choose The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask from its game library.
- Play with a supported Switch controller. On Switch Lite, Nintendo notes that the experience may differ from using a console connected to a TV.
Nintendo describes the app’s games as reproductions of the original N64 titles; performance and presentation may differ from the originals. The library listing supports TV, tabletop, and handheld play. See Nintendo’s app and library details.
Choose a controller and check its mapping
A standard supported Switch controller is enough. If you prefer the original N64-style layout, Nintendo sells a compatible controller for the N64 Classics collection, but it is not required and stock or availability can vary by region. Nintendo 64 controller product listing

To use the N64-style controller, pair it with the console, start the Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online app, and then play. Nintendo Support: How to Use the Nintendo 64 Controller
Do not assume that the button labels in the original N64 manual match every Switch controller’s current mapping. Open the N64 app’s View/Change Controls screen to see or customize the assignments on your system. What to expect from the game
The adventure takes place in Termina and revolves around a repeating three-day cycle. Characters follow routines tied to the clock, so time is part of the puzzle: exploring at a different point in the cycle can change what is happening and which leads are available. Masks transform Link into different forms, including Deku, Goron, and Zora, each with abilities that help with particular tasks and movement.

Use the in-game notebook and map to track leads, and pay attention to how the cycle and save system work before setting out on a long stretch of exploration. Try a transformation when a task or environment suggests a different movement ability. Saving and returning to play
The original game’s manual explains saving in connection with the passage of time and the game’s data files. Separately, Nintendo’s Switch library page says players can save and return to play. Those sources do not establish every current suspend-menu behavior for this title, so check the N64 app’s current menu for emulator-level suspend options rather than assuming they work like the game’s in-world save system.
