You can’t play State of Decay 3 yet. As of October 7, 2026, Xbox lists it as coming in 2027. Xbox has announced day-one Game Pass availability on console and PC, but the game is not generally released and the exact Game Pass tier for each platform has not been confirmed.
Is State of Decay 3 available on Game Pass now?
No. The Xbox listing gives a 2027 release target, and Undead Labs said on September 22, 2026 that the game remains in active development and alpha. Xbox has also discussed closed beta playtests targeted before the end of 2026; those are not the same as public release or ordinary Game Pass access.

How to access it with Game Pass when it launches
- Check the live game listing. Open the Xbox State of Decay 3 page and confirm that the game has released and is available in your region.
- Check your platform’s Game Pass catalog. Look for State of Decay 3 in the current catalog for your console or PC and confirm that your subscription tier includes it. Xbox advertises “Play day one with Game Pass,” but the announcements cited here do not establish the exact tier for every platform.
- Install or launch through the supported route. Use the Xbox console or PC storefront/app identified on the live listing. For cloud play, confirm that the game’s cloud option is available for your device, region, and plan.
- Check multiplayer access separately if you play on console. Xbox says online console multiplayer requires an Xbox Game Pass subscription and lists Essential, Premium, or Ultimate for this condition. Recheck the product page near release for the current terms.
Game Pass access and Xbox Play Anywhere are different
Game Pass is a subscription route: Xbox advertises access on day one, subject to the catalog and plan terms in effect at launch. Xbox Play Anywhere is a purchase benefit that Xbox describes as buying once to play on Xbox console and PC. The Play Anywhere announcement does not establish which Game Pass tier will include the game, and it does not make Game Pass a purchase.

Xbox describes State of Decay 3 as a survival horror game built around managing a community, building settlements, scavenging, recruiting survivors, and consequential choices, with permadeath among the announced features. Its listing says online multiplayer supports up to four people in a shared world. These are announced features of a game still in development and may change before release.
