“After her rework” can mean different versions of Sombra. This guide explains how to approach the October 2023 Damage-hero kit, when Stealth became passive, Translocator became an automatic teleport, and Virus was added. That advice is historical: Blizzard’s October 2024 revision changed the kit again, and its Season 5 announcement in 2026 describes Sombra as a Support hero with a different set of abilities. Check the current in-game ability descriptions before using any rotation from an older guide.
What changed in Sombra’s 2023 rework?
Blizzard’s October 2023 rework made Sombra more committed and active during engagements while retaining her hacker identity. In the Season 7-era Damage kit, Stealth became passive, Translocator became a quick automatic teleport, and Virus added damage over time. Those mechanics describe the 2023 version, not Sombra’s later revisions.
Blizzard Hero Design Team member Andre Abrahamian described the goals as: “make Sombra commit to the fight more when engaging, increase the active feel in her ability kit, and uphold the current Hacker fantasy.” Blizzard said the previous Translocator could let Sombra start a fight alone and escape easily; the redesign aimed to give opponents more opportunity to respond.
How did the 2023 abilities work?
Stealth: use the passive to approach, not to assume you are safe
In the October 2023 version, Stealth activated after 3.5 seconds without shooting, using a damaging ability, or taking damage. Its movement-speed bonus was reduced from 60% to 45% in that rework. Using Hack on an enemy hero canceled Stealth. Treat concealment as a way to choose an approach, not as protection you can count on once the fight begins.

Translocator: choose an immediate destination
The 2023 Translocator teleported Sombra automatically 0.25 seconds after being thrown or when it hit the environment. Teleporting also reduced Stealth’s passive cooldown. Unlike a beacon left behind for a later manual escape, this version required you to choose a destination for a near-immediate reposition.
Virus: add damage pressure, with a Hack interaction
Virus was a projectile that dealt damage over time, with its damage applied more quickly against hacked targets. That made Hack relevant to the timing of Virus, but it did not make every engagement an automatic Hack-then-Virus sequence: using Hack on an enemy hero broke Stealth, so the decision also exposed Sombra.

Hack: weigh the reveal against the disruption
In this kit, Hack canceled Stealth when used on an enemy hero. Decide whether the target and the timing justify giving up concealment to apply the ability. The available mechanics establish that trade-off, but do not establish one universally best target or combo for every map, rank, or fight.

How should you approach a fight with the 2023 kit?
- Choose your approach before you reveal yourself. Use passive Stealth to get into a useful position, then decide whether the target is worth engaging. The passive’s activation conditions mean shooting, using a damaging ability, or taking damage interrupts the path back into Stealth.
- Commit only when the engagement has a purpose. Hack breaks Stealth in the 2023 kit. Consider whether its interaction with your planned pressure is worth losing concealment before you use it on an enemy hero.
- Use Virus to create damage pressure. It deals damage over time and applies that damage more quickly against hacked targets. The interaction can inform your timing, but the mechanic alone does not prove that a fixed ability order is optimal.
- Plan Translocator as a reposition, not a delayed escape button. Because teleportation followed the throw or environmental impact automatically, choose where you want to arrive before committing to the throw.
- Reassess after contact. Once you have fired, used a damaging ability, or taken damage, do not assume Stealth will return immediately; its passive required 3.5 seconds without those events in the 2023 version.
This is a mechanics-based approach, not a claim of tested or map-specific optimal play. The 2023 design goals and ability descriptions explain the kit’s trade-offs, but do not establish a single winning rotation.

How did Sombra change again in October 2024?
Blizzard’s October 21, 2024 patch notes describe another Damage-era revision. These are dated changes and should not be read as the current Support kit.
- Stealth was no longer passive; it activated with Translocator and lasted five seconds.
- Taking damage revealed Sombra for one second instead of ending Stealth.
- Hack no longer ended Stealth, but it revealed Sombra.
- Hack’s ability-lockout duration was reduced from 1.5 to 1.0 seconds.
- Translocator’s cooldown increased from five to seven seconds.
- Opportunist returned, granting 20% weapon damage against hacked targets and wall visibility for critically injured enemies.
These differences are enough to make a 2023 ability sequence unreliable for the 2024 version, even before considering later changes.

Is Sombra still a Damage hero?
Blizzard’s Season 5 announcement in 2026 describes a later move from Damage to Support. It names three abilities: Hotfix, which heals an ally over time and can be used while invisible without immediately breaking Stealth; Cyberspace, which creates an area that heals allies and weakens enemies; and Conspirator, which reveals fully charged enemy ultimates. The announcement excerpt does not provide enough detail to reconstruct their complete values, controls, or interactions, so this guide does not prescribe a current Support rotation.
