You generally can’t cast your phone’s screen or send a movie directly from a phone to a PS4. Instead, choose the route that matches what you want to watch: copy a phone-stored video to USB storage, use a compatible media server on the same network, or open the streaming service’s app on the PS4. PlayStation documents USB and media-server playback in its PS4 Media Player instructions; it describes Remote Play as a way to control the console from a phone, not to cast a phone video to it.

Play a video file copied from your phone
- Transfer the video from your phone to USB storage using a method supported by your phone and drive.
- On the USB device, save the video inside a folder. PlayStation says video and image files on external storage must be saved in a folder.
- On the PS4, download PS4 Media Player if needed, then open it.
- Connect the USB device, select it in Media Player, and choose the video.
PlayStation documents playback from connected USB storage, but its instructions do not specify how to transfer files from each phone or provide a complete list of supported video formats. Check that the specific file is compatible rather than assuming every video recorded or downloaded on a phone will play.

Play personal videos over your home network
- Set up a media server that can share the video with the PS4.
- Connect the PS4 and the server to the same network.
- Open PS4 Media Player and select the media server when it appears, then choose the video.
PlayStation says that media servers on the same network as the console are detected and displayed automatically. The instructions defer server setup and connection details to the server’s documentation; they do not establish that every phone can serve files directly without compatible software.

Watch a movie from an online service
Use the service’s app on the PS4 rather than trying to send its phone app to the console. Open the PS4 entertainment interface and launch the service if its app is currently available in your region. PlayStation’s entertainment overview describes streaming apps on PlayStation, including YouTube, but app availability and catalogs can vary by region and change over time.

Why Remote Play is not phone-to-PS4 casting
PS Remote Play connects a phone to a PS4 or PS5 so you can control the console remotely over a high-speed connection. PlayStation does not describe it as a way to send a movie playing on your phone to the PS4.

If the video does not appear or play
- The USB drive or file is missing: Check that the drive is connected and that the video is inside a folder. Then reopen Media Player and select the USB device.
- The media server is missing: Confirm that the PS4 and server are on the same network, and consult the server’s setup instructions.
- The file appears but will not play: The cited PlayStation instructions do not provide a complete codec or container list. Verify compatibility for the exact video file; USB playback alone does not guarantee that every phone video is supported.
- A streaming app is unavailable: Check the PS4’s entertainment apps for your region. The US-focused overview is not a complete, current availability list for every country.
