Important: the original PojavLauncher is no longer an actively supported project. Its official iOS repository was archived on September 23, 2025 and says that PojavLauncher has been discontinued. The project’s successor is Amethyst, maintained by AngelAuraMC for Android, iPhone, and iPad.
You can still find older PojavLauncher instructions online, but treat them as historical. On Android, the repository currently named TeamPojavLauncher/PojavLauncher describes itself as a rewrite based on MojoLauncher and explicitly says it is not affiliated with the original PojavLauncherTeam.
The basic idea remains the same: install a Java Edition launcher, sign in with a Microsoft account that owns Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC, choose a Minecraft version, select a renderer, and launch the game. iOS adds a major complication: usable performance requires just-in-time compilation, or JIT.

- An Android phone/tablet or a compatible iPhone/iPad.
- A Microsoft account that owns Minecraft: Java Edition. A mobile Minecraft purchase does not grant Java Edition access.
- Enough free storage for the launcher, Java runtime, Minecraft version, libraries, worlds, and mods.
- A reliable Wi-Fi connection for downloading game files and assets.
- For iOS, a sideloading method that can provide JIT. Installing an IPA by itself is not enough.
Mobile hardware is not equivalent to a gaming PC. Vanilla Minecraft may run acceptably on a modern device, but shaders, large modpacks, high render distances, and resource-heavy worlds can exceed the phone’s CPU, GPU, memory, or thermal limits.

Android: install and configure a Pojav-based launcher
The current Android options are prebuilt releases or automatic builds, Google Play, and building the application from source. Because the original project has changed status, check the repository and website carefully before downloading. The Android repository at TeamPojavLauncher/PojavLauncher is a rewrite, not the original official project. The successor promoted by the former PojavLauncher website is Amethyst.
Option 1: install a prebuilt Android APK
- Open the current Android project’s official GitHub page or its linked release page. Avoid random APK mirror sites and unofficial “premium” versions.
- Download the appropriate APK or automatic build artifact.
- Open the downloaded APK. Android may ask you to allow the browser or file manager to install unknown apps. Enable that permission only for the app you are using, then return to the installer.
- Install the APK and open the launcher.
- Sign in using the Microsoft account that owns Java Edition.
- Allow the launcher to create its game directory and download the selected Minecraft files.
If you are using a GitHub Actions build, the documented path is:
Actions → Android CI → choose a build with a green or blue checkmark → Artifacts → app-debug
The v3_openjdk branch is documented as the normal choice for most users. The downloaded Android artifact is installed as a regular .apk file.
Option 2: build the Android launcher yourself
Source compilation is intended for developers or users who specifically need a development build. It is not the simplest route for ordinary gameplay.

app_pojavlauncher/build/outputs/apk/debug/Build failures commonly result from an incompatible Android SDK, Java version, missing Gradle dependencies, or insufficient storage. A source build also does not remove the need for a valid Microsoft login.

First launch on Android
- Open the launcher and select Microsoft login or the equivalent account option.
- Complete the browser-based Microsoft sign-in and authorization process.
- Select an installed Minecraft version, or use the launcher’s version-install menu to download one.
- Open the version’s settings before launching.
- Start with a moderate memory allocation and a short render distance. Increase settings gradually rather than assigning nearly all available RAM.
- Choose Holy GL4ES as the initial renderer unless the launcher’s current documentation recommends another option for your device.
- Launch Minecraft and test a new world before adding mods or shaders.
Choosing the renderer
Minecraft Java Edition expects desktop OpenGL, while phones and tablets generally expose OpenGL ES or mobile GPU APIs. Pojav-based launchers therefore use compatibility renderers to translate or provide the graphics functions Java Edition expects.

Change one graphics setting at a time. If the game shows a black screen, crashes during startup, or renders missing textures, switch back to Holy GL4ES before changing several other variables.
iPhone and iPad: the current situation
The original PojavLauncher iOS repository is archived and explicitly discontinued. Its old installation instructions should not be presented as current official support. For a maintained iOS/iPadOS option, look at Amethyst-iOS from AngelAuraMC and follow that project’s own release and compatibility instructions.
Older PojavLauncher documentation described installation through TrollStore, AltStore, SideStore, and GitHub Actions IPA artifacts. Those procedures are useful only as historical context:
- For TrollStore, the old instructions said to download an IPA, open it from the Files app, tap Share, and choose TrollStore.
- The old GitHub Actions path was
Actions → Development Build → choose a successful build → Artifacts → net.kdt.pojavlauncher.ipa. - For AltStore or SideStore, the archived README described adding PojavLauncher Repository from Trusted Sources, then tapping FREE.
Do not assume those exact repository names, IPA files, or signing methods remain available for Amethyst. Use the successor project’s current documentation instead.

Why JIT matters on iOS
JIT allows the Java runtime to compile code while Minecraft is running. The archived iOS documentation states that ordinary iOS execution does not provide the JIT behavior PojavLauncher needs for usable performance without debugging or a workaround.

This creates a common failure mode: the IPA installs successfully, the icon appears, and the app still fails to launch Minecraft or performs extremely poorly. The installation succeeded; JIT did not.

The archived project also warned that signing services which do not use the device UDID are unsupported because they do not provide the required capabilities. A development certificate may work because it supplies the com.apple.security.get-task-allow entitlement used to attach a debugger and enable JIT. In practice, the exact JIT process depends on the current iOS version, sideloading tool, certificate, and successor launcher.
iOS and iPadOS hardware expectations
The archived PojavLauncher iOS project listed iOS 14 or later on these minimum device families:
- iPhone 6s or later
- iPad 5th generation or later
- iPad Air 2 or later
- iPad mini 4 or later
- All iPad Pro models
- iPod touch 7th generation
Its smoother-gameplay recommendations were considerably newer: iPhone XS or later, excluding iPhone XR and iPhone SE 2; iPad 10th generation or later; iPad Air 4th generation or later; iPad mini 6th generation or later; and most iPad Pro models except the 9.7-inch model.
These are archived project recommendations, not a guarantee that a current Amethyst build supports the same devices. Check the successor’s release notes before installing.
Minecraft versions, loaders, and mods
The current Android rewrite claims support ranging from rd-132211 through 26.x snapshots, including Combat Test versions. The archived iOS project claimed support for most Java versions from early beta releases through the snapshots available when it was maintained.

The older iOS project listed Forge, Fabric, OptiFine, and Quilt support. That does not mean every mod works on a phone. A mod can fail because it:
- contains native libraries for desktop architectures only;
- requires a Java version unavailable or unsuitable on the device;
- expects desktop OpenGL features that the selected renderer cannot provide;
- uses more memory than the device can allocate;
- depends on another mod or loader version that does not match Minecraft;
- loads shaders or high-resolution textures that overwhelm the mobile GPU.
For troubleshooting, launch a clean vanilla profile first. Then add the loader, test it, add one mod or mod group, and test again. This identifies the component responsible for a crash far faster than copying an entire desktop modpack at once.
Fixes for common problems

Is PojavLauncher safe to download?
Download only from a project’s official GitHub repository, official website, or a store listing linked by that project. Be especially cautious with APKs and IPAs advertised as “unlocked,” “premium,” or “no Microsoft account.” A launcher does not legitimately remove Minecraft ownership requirements, and unofficial builds may contain modified code or credential-stealing malware.
Also distinguish the project names: the archived PojavLauncherTeam/PojavLauncher_iOS repository is the original iOS project, while TeamPojavLauncher/PojavLauncher identifies itself as an unaffiliated rewrite. Amethyst is the successor project maintained by AngelAuraMC.
FAQ
Can I still play Minecraft Java Edition on Android with PojavLauncher?
You may be able to use an Android Pojav-based build, but the original project is discontinued. The current Android repository is an unaffiliated rewrite, and Amethyst is the successor promoted for Android and iOS. Use an official project source and confirm current compatibility before installing.

Can I install PojavLauncher on an iPhone without a computer?
It depends on the iOS version, device, sideloading method, and whether the method can provide JIT. The archived PojavLauncher instructions often required a computer or another JIT workaround, and those instructions are no longer current support documentation.

Why does the iOS app install but not launch Minecraft?
The most likely cause is missing JIT. iOS can install an IPA while still preventing the runtime behavior needed for Minecraft Java Edition. Check the current Amethyst documentation for a supported JIT procedure.
Which renderer should I use?
Start with Holy GL4ES. It was documented as the default general-purpose renderer and is optimized for common vanilla use. Try LTW for Minecraft 1.17 or newer when appropriate, and test ANGLE on iOS if it performs better on your device. Zink has device- and version-specific limitations.
Do Android and iOS launchers support Forge and Fabric?
The archived iOS project listed Forge, Fabric, OptiFine, and Quilt, and current Android builds support many Minecraft versions. Individual mods can still fail because of Java requirements, native libraries, graphics APIs, memory use, or incompatible dependencies.

PojavLauncher should no longer be treated as an actively supported iOS project: the original repository was archived and discontinued on September 23, 2025. For a current installation, investigate Amethyst on Android, iOS, or iPadOS and follow its own release, device, and JIT instructions. On Android, start with an official APK or store build, sign in with a Java Edition account, use Holy GL4ES first, and test vanilla Minecraft before adding mods. On iOS, solve the JIT requirement before troubleshooting graphics or performance.
