Horde Siege is a cooperative 12-player PvE mode in Gears of War: E-Day. Three squads of four share a battlefield, complete missions and changing objectives, and try to extract after the final fight. To get started, choose a class and playlist, work through R.I.G. objectives, coordinate around shared Energy and supplies, and help teammates recover when they are down. The Coalition says at least one squad member must extract for the mission to count as complete and for collected Weapon Parts to be retained.
What happens in Horde Siege?
Each mission puts three four-player squads on the same persistent battlefield. Squads have their own missions, but can cross paths, encounter dynamic events, and benefit from resources or fortifications other squads leave behind. The mode centers on R.I.G. equipment—COG scanning gear repurposed to map Locust tunnels beneath Kalona. The Coalition describes its core as surviving the Locust, supporting your squad, and using your firepower effectively.
Launch objectives include five types: Secure, Calibrate, Repair, Defend, and Horde. The mission ends with an extraction sequence: clear the landing zone and hold it until the Raven arrives.

Choose a playlist that fits your session
The Coalition gives typical durations, not guaranteed match lengths. Use them to choose a format, then follow the playlist flow shown in the game’s multiplayer menu; an exact current sequence of menu labels and button presses has not been confirmed.

Pick a class for the job you enjoy
There are four launch classes, each with a distinct role. The Coalition says there is no required squad composition: you can mix classes or all choose the same one. Classes have 30 progression levels, so check the current in-game difficulty recommendation as your class develops.

Choose based on how you prefer to fight and support others: stuns and cover damage, durable close-range pushes, precision and target tagging, or healing and revives. No one class is designated as mandatory.

Set difficulty with class level and squad readiness in mind
The Coalition’s launch guidance ties Horde Siege difficulty to class level and gives these suggested ranges: Infantry for class levels 10–20, Commander for 20–30, and Allfather for max-level classes. These are recommendations, not a substitute for the current in-game prompt. The September 30, 2026 Season 1 update changed Commander and Allfather difficulty, among other balance adjustments, so reassess after updates rather than relying on an old “best difficulty” rule.

Prioritize the main R.I.G. task
Complete the primary objectives to advance the mission. Optional objectives can award Weapon Parts, free equipment, or Squad Perks, but they take time and can expose the squad to more enemies. Consider the reward and your current position before committing; if the squad is already under pressure, regroup and talk through the next move rather than stretching to an optional fight.

Weigh the risk of COG Resupplies
COG Resupplies can grant items, but the Coalition warns that they attract Locust forces. Collect one when the potential supplies justify drawing enemies to your position.
Spend shared Energy deliberately
The squad earns Energy by completing objectives and defeating enemies. Its pool is shared, but purchases at Supply Caches are made individually. Energy can buy equipment, weapons, and Squad Perks, and can also fund or upgrade turret installations at defensive positions. Coordinate purchases where possible so the shared earnings support the squad’s immediate needs.

Use cover and recover teammates before a wipe
The Coalition’s gameplay guidance emphasizes reading the cover available and moving from cover to cover. A wrong move can leave a Gear exposed, even with the mode’s additional cover types and movement options. Weapon mods are also available in Horde Siege and Campaign. Treat cover as part of your route between objectives, not just a place to pause during a firefight.

Take those tags to a Supply Cache to revive the player; a player from another squad can pick them up to revive them instantly. A full-squad wipe consumes a Squad Life, and losing all Squad Lives fails the mission. Keep track of who is down and whether a recovery is possible before splitting up or taking another risk.

Finish the extraction
After the main objectives, clear the landing zone and defend it until the Raven arrives. The Coalition says only one squad member technically needs to escape for mission completion and to retain collected Weapon Parts. Aim to get the whole squad out, but if the situation deteriorates, prioritize ensuring at least one member reaches the extraction.
Where to play and what has changed recently
The publisher lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam, and its editions page includes a physical Xbox Series X|S Standard Edition. Horde Siege is a mode in Gears of War: E-Day, not a separate product. Online play may require a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer, sold separately; check current platform and regional terms before buying. The publisher lists October 6, 2026 as the global release date.
As of the September 30, 2026 update, Season 1: Emergence was planned to run for eight weeks, through December 1, 2026. The update described three limited themed events, each planned to include a Versus event mode, a Horde Siege event mission, and rewards; event dates and schedules can change.
