Square Enix lists iPhone, Android, Steam, Windows 10, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One for Final Fantasy IX. That is a platform-family list, not a guarantee that every version is currently sold in every region. What changes—and what stays the same—between versions?
Square Enix Support says, “The game contents are the same across all platforms.” It also explains that graphical specifications can differ according to each platform’s processing power. In other words, choose based on the hardware and storefront features that suit you, rather than expecting a different story or core content on a particular platform.

How to get the Windows PC version
Steam
Find Final Fantasy IX in Steam and review its current system requirements and client-support notice before purchasing. The Steam edition’s listed extras include achievements, autosave, high-definition movies and character models, and seven boosters. These include high-speed and no-encounter modes.
GOG
GOG offers another Windows route. Its product listing says the edition is verified on Windows 10 and 11 and supports modern controllers. GOG also provides an offline installer, so you can install without using GOG Galaxy. GOG describes its work on the game as: “We made this game up to today’s standards as part of GOG Preservation Program.” That is GOG’s characterization of its compatibility work; consult the current listing to check whether its stated support fits your PC.
How to play on PlayStation, Switch, Xbox, or mobile
Use the official platform or storefront listing for the device you intend to play on, and verify the edition is available in your region. The PlayStation page documents the PS4 digital edition, while Square Enix lists Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, iPhone, and Android versions. Store formats and device support are not established for every region or generation by those platform-family labels alone.
In particular, the available official listings here do not establish native PS5 availability or complete backward-compatibility details for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Switch 2. They also do not settle current minimum operating-system versions or device requirements for mobile. Check the relevant live listing before purchasing or installing.

- Confirm that the platform edition is sold in your region and whether it is digital or physical.
- On PC, review the storefront’s current system requirements and client-support information.
- On newer consoles, verify compatibility for your exact console generation rather than relying on an older platform-family label.
- On mobile, check the app listing against your device and operating-system version.
Square Enix’s storefront describes Final Fantasy IX as “Selling over five million copies since its release in 2000.” Steam repeats the claim. It is a publisher/storefront statement about sales since the stated original release year, not a separately dated current sales total.
