Phoenix Cyclops is announced for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls as the first Year 1 additional character, but the official sources available as of October 7, 2026, do not establish his release date, command list, or character-specific combos. His confirmed themes are powerful Optic Blasts, hand-to-hand combat, and the Phoenix Force. Until an official move guide or in-game Character Guide fills in the details, you can prepare by learning the game’s documented combo, defense, and team systems—without mistaking general examples for Cyclops routes.
What is confirmed about Cyclops?
Arc System Works producer Takeshi Yamanaka announced Phoenix Cyclops on July 23, 2026, as the first additional character in Year 1 content. The character draws on Cyclops’s Phoenix Five incarnation from Avengers vs. X-Men. The announcement names Optic Blasts, exceptional hand-to-hand abilities, and the Phoenix Force as themes; it does not explain how these appear as playable moves.
Yamanaka wrote: “We’ll have more to share about how these abilities are incorporated into his gameplay, so please stay tuned for future updates on his fighting style.” The official FAQ’s launch roster does not include Cyclops. Together, those sources establish that he is planned as post-launch content, not that he was playable at launch or available on a particular date. See the Cyclops announcement and the official FAQ.
No verified source here provides Cyclops’s inputs, move names beyond those broad themes, frame data, damage, optimal routes, matchups, or best team. Calling him a zoner, describing a Phoenix-powered install, or recommending a projectile combo would go beyond what has been confirmed.

Learn the game’s shared combo system first
The official beginner guide teaches Link Attack sequences as general examples for the game. They are useful starting points, but they are not verified Cyclops combos. PlayStation button names are included below; if you use another platform or customized controls, follow the corresponding in-game button labels.
| Sequence | What the beginner guide says it leads to |
|---|---|
| Light → Light → Light → Light | A Skill; it can also trigger a Break that may transition the stage. |
| Medium → Medium → Medium | A Super Skill. |
| Heavy → Heavy → Heavy | An Ultimate Skill. |
| Light → Medium → Heavy → Skill → Assemble Rush → Follow-up Attack | An example of a more advanced team combo. |
In the guide’s PlayStation notation, Light is Square (□), Medium is Triangle (△), Heavy is Circle (○), and Assemble is Cross (×). The examples describe the shared teaching system, not confirmed Cyclops routes. The full official beginner guide explains the game’s controls and fundamentals.

Quick Skills or Command Inputs?
The guide describes two ways to perform Skills. Quick Skills use a single button and are suggested as a starting point for newcomers. Command Inputs are a little more demanding to execute, but the guide says they deal slightly more damage and generate more Skill Gauge; it describes the two methods as otherwise similar. These are general input-style differences, not Cyclops-specific test results.

- Start with Quick Skills if you are learning timing and spacing or want a simpler input.
- Try Command Inputs when you are comfortable with the move and want to compare the guide’s stated damage and gauge trade-off in practice.
You can customize the Quick Skill button. Once Cyclops is playable, use Training Mode to check how his own Skills respond to both input styles rather than assuming a particular move or damage value.

Use defense and team mechanics to build fundamentals
These controls apply to the game’s general combat and team systems; the cited guide does not establish Cyclops-specific defensive options or assist properties.
- Standing guard: hold back (←). Crouching guard: hold down-back (↙).
- Assemble Counter: press Square + Cross (□ + ×) while not guarding. It performs a defensive backstep and automatically counters if the opponent attacks during the maneuver.
- Crossover: press Square + Cross while guarding to call in a teammate, interrupt the opponent, and create a counteroffensive opening.
- Assemble Assist: press Cross (×). The guide lists neutral or right for the second teammate, down for the third, and left for the fourth. A directional input with L2 switches to a teammate.
After an assist, an on-screen “Switch?” prompt briefly permits an L2 switch. The guide recommends learning assists before adding direct switching and assist-to-switch techniques. For now, treat team choices as practice rather than a Cyclops team recommendation: his assist and tag behavior have not been established in the cited material.

How to verify Cyclops combos when his kit is available
Use the game’s own tools to turn a generic combo idea into a tested character route. The official FAQ says Training Mode can display command inputs, frame data, and damage, and supports scenario presets plus recorded and replayed bots.
- Open Training Mode. Start with the Startup Battle tutorial if you still need to learn the game’s basic controls and Link Attacks.
- Check Cyclops’s Character Guide and command inputs. Record the actual move names and inputs shown in game; do not infer them from the reveal’s broad character themes.
- Test a simple Link Attack into a Skill. Confirm the hit and timing requirements, then try the route against a recorded or replayed bot if the scenario calls for it.
- Measure the result. Use Training Mode’s damage and frame-data displays to compare a route’s ender and any Quick Skill or Command Input variation.
- Add team follow-ups only after the solo route works. Test the assist timing and switch prompt with the teammates you actually plan to use before treating the sequence as reliable.
This process verifies a route in your version of the game; it does not imply a particular combo is optimal or remains unchanged after updates. The official support FAQ describes Training Mode’s available tools.
What the game’s team format means for a new player
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a 4v4 team fighter. Its official Steam listing describes adjustable controls, traditional and quick inputs, easy chain combos, offline Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, and Character Guides. It also lists a Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass with four post-launch characters and one stage, but the product description does not name every character in the pass; Cyclops’s separate announcement identifies him as the first Year 1 addition. Check the official Steam listing for product details rather than assuming a particular edition or pass includes him.
For team play, Arc System Works Game Director and Lead Battle Designer Kazuto Sekine said in a June 4, 2025, PlayStation Blog overview: “Generally, a team VS fighting game requires the player to learn multiple characters, but for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, you only need to master one character in order to play the game.” That is useful context for approaching the game, not proof that Cyclops has a particular assist synergy or that mastering one character eliminates the value of learning team mechanics. The PlayStation Blog overview also discusses the game’s design.
