To play a Spotify playlist on Alexa, link Spotify in the Alexa app, then ask for the playlist by name. Set Spotify as your default music service if you want to leave “on Spotify” out of ordinary music requests.
Link Spotify to Alexa
- Open the Alexa app.
- Tap More > Settings.
- Under Alexa Preferences, tap Music & Podcasts.
- Tap Link New Service, choose Spotify, and follow the on-screen instructions. After linking, providers appear under Manage Services, according to Spotify Support.
Spotify’s US support page labels these instructions “For: Premium.” It does not establish eligibility for every free account or region.
Ask Alexa to play the playlist
Once Spotify is linked, say, “Alexa, play Discover Weekly,” Spotify’s example command. Replace “Discover Weekly” with the name of the playlist you want to hear.

Make Spotify the default music service
To make ordinary music requests simpler, open Your Default Services in the Alexa app’s music settings, select Spotify, and tap DONE. Then you can request a playlist without naming Spotify. Podcast requests are different: Spotify says to include “on Spotify” at the end of the command, even when Spotify is the default.

Which Alexa devices can play Spotify?
Spotify’s US support page lists Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Spot, Echo Show, Amazon Tap, Fire TV Cube, Facebook Portal and Portal+, and all Sonos players as supported devices. This is the list on Spotify’s US page; availability may differ by country.
If Spotify does not appear in the Alexa app
The Spotify support page describes how to link the service but does not explain why it might be missing from the service list. It does not establish a specific cause or fix, so avoid assuming the issue is due to a particular app version, country, or subscription.
