To play audio directly from your phone, put the Samsung soundbar in Bluetooth pairing mode, then select it in your phone’s Bluetooth settings. For phone-based controls and setup on compatible models, use SmartThings over the same Wi-Fi network.
Pair your phone with Bluetooth
Bluetooth is the simplest way to stream phone audio to a soundbar. It works without a Wi-Fi router. The soundbar must show BT PAIRING before a new phone can find it.
- Put the soundbar in pairing mode. Press the soundbar’s Source button until its display shows BT. If it displays BT READY, press and hold Source for more than five seconds, until BT PAIRING appears. Samsung’s Bluetooth pairing instructions describe this process.
- Open Bluetooth settings on your phone. Scan for nearby devices and select the soundbar when it appears. Confirm the pairing request if your phone prompts you.
- Play audio from your phone. Once connected, the soundbar acts as the audio output device. If it does not appear in the scan, check the troubleshooting steps below.
Menu names and button behavior can vary by soundbar model and software version. Samsung says its soundbars can pair with Bluetooth audio devices including phones and tablets.

Set up SmartThings for phone-based control
SmartThings can provide controls such as power, volume and sound mode on compatible soundbars. This is separate from Bluetooth pairing: for the documented setup, the phone and soundbar need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

- Connect the phone and soundbar to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open the SmartThings app and select Add (+) > Add device > Samsung devices > Soundbar.
- Select the detected soundbar and follow the app’s prompts. Depending on the model, setup may ask you to scan a QR code or confirm by pressing Volume Down on the soundbar.
Samsung’s SmartThings soundbar setup guide lists Android 6.0 or later and iOS 10.0 or later for its documented setup. Those minimums do not guarantee that every feature works on every device: compatibility also varies by soundbar model, phone, software version, country, service provider and network.
Bluetooth or Wi-Fi: which should you use?

Samsung describes Wi-Fi as offering wider in-home range than Bluetooth and SmartThings as the management path for compatible devices. If your Samsung soundbar does not appear or connect
- Check the soundbar’s display. It needs to say BT PAIRING, not BT READY. If it says BT READY, hold Source on the soundbar for more than five seconds to enter pairing mode.
- Remove an old Bluetooth record. In your phone’s Bluetooth settings, forget or remove the existing soundbar entry, scan again, and select the soundbar.
- Power-cycle the soundbar. Unplug it for about 30 seconds, reconnect it, then retry pairing. Samsung includes this as a recovery step in its soundbar troubleshooting guidance.
- For SmartThings, check the network and account. Confirm that the phone and soundbar are on the same Wi-Fi network, and sign in to the required Samsung account if the app asks.
- Check for software updates. If the soundbar still will not enter pairing mode, or SmartThings cannot detect it after these checks, use Samsung Support for help with your model.
