To pair two JBL PartyBox speakers, first check that your exact models support the mode you want. Matching models generally use TWS (True Wireless Stereo) for stereo playback; selected different-model pairs support Party mode, which synchronizes playback but does not create left- and right-channel stereo. The button sequence depends on the model.
Check whether your two speakers are compatible
JBL Support says that two PartyBox speakers of the same model can pair through TWS. JBL also lists exceptions and selected cross-model combinations, so do not assume that any two PartyBox speakers will connect wirelessly. Check the exact model names against JBL’s current US PartyBox TWS compatibility guidance before pairing.
- Same model: TWS is the usual option and defaults to stereo, according to JBL.
- PartyBox 200 and PartyBox 300: JBL lists this as an exception that can pair together.
- PartyBox On-The-Go and On-The-Go Essential: JBL also lists this cross-model pairing exception.
- Selected newer app-compatible models: JBL lists cross-model pairs including PartyBox 110, 120, 310, 320, 710, Encore, and Encore Essential for Party mode. Different-model combinations in this mode do not provide stereo.
JBL’s regional guidance is not identical across pages. Its separate PartyBox capabilities article describes a somewhat different set of examples for wireless Party mode and wired connections. For a cross-model setup, use the current guidance for your region and the manual for each exact speaker rather than treating the examples as a universal list.

Stereo through TWS
TWS links two compatible speakers and, with matching models, JBL says the default result is stereo: one speaker plays the left channel and the other plays the right. The PartyBox 710 manual also describes TWS controls for that model.

Party mode between different models
Some supported different-model pairs can synchronize playback in Party mode. That is not stereo: JBL says different-model combinations in this mode do not assign separate left and right audio channels. If stereo separation is the goal, confirm that your two speakers support TWS together before trying to pair them.
Pair the speakers using the controls for your model
Put the speakers close enough to connect, turn them on, and follow the instructions for the exact models. JBL uses more than one control method across the PartyBox family.

Models with a TWS button
- Turn on both compatible speakers.
- Press the TWS button on each speaker. JBL gives this as the basic TWS procedure for several models.
- Allow the speakers to connect and check that playback comes from both.
To exit TWS on the PartyBox 710, JBL’s manual says to press TWS on either speaker or turn one speaker off. Other models may behave differently; use their manuals for model-specific setup and exit instructions.
Models that use the Bluetooth button
- Turn on both speakers and confirm they are a compatible pair.
- On the first speaker, press and hold the Bluetooth button until you hear the notification chime.
- Repeat the Bluetooth-button hold on the second speaker and wait for the connection.
Some models have extra setup details, including a required connection order or rear-speaker left/right controls. JBL’s support guidance recommends checking the exact model instructions rather than assuming the same sequence works for every speaker.

PartyBox On-The-Go Essential
For this model specifically, JBL’s On-The-Go Essential manual says to hold the Bluetooth button on both speakers for more than five seconds. It specifies a distance of less than 10 m (33 ft) for this TWS setup; that distance is model-specific and should not be applied to the whole PartyBox range. The speaker connected to the audio source is the primary, left-channel speaker by default.

For supported models, the JBL PartyBox app can activate or deactivate TWS and assign the left and right channels. This is useful if you want to control which speaker plays each stereo channel rather than rely on the default assignment. App support and available controls vary by model; JBL’s TWS support page identifies the feature for supported speakers.

Know what happens to a microphone or instrument input
TWS does not automatically send an instrument or microphone plugged into one speaker to the other: JBL says that input is heard from the connected speaker alone. To hear the input through both speakers, JBL describes connecting the first speaker’s output to the secondary speaker’s input with a cable, or using a small mixing console. Check the input and output connections on your specific models before choosing a cable setup.
Quick Recap
If the speakers do not pair
- Recheck model compatibility: confirm that your exact pair supports TWS or the intended Party mode; a successful Bluetooth connection to a phone does not establish that two speakers can link to each other.
- Use the correct button sequence: some PartyBox models have a TWS button, while others use a Bluetooth-button hold.
- Follow model-specific setup details: check the manuals for connection order, app requirements, or channel controls that may apply to your speakers.
- For On-The-Go Essential, clear an old source connection if needed: JBL’s manual notes that you may need to forget the PartyBox on the source device before reconnecting Bluetooth. This is guidance for that model, not a universal fix.
