To display ID SET on a Samsung soundbar, first switch the soundbar off and put the subwoofer or wireless speakers into pairing mode. Then hold the model-appropriate button on the soundbar remote until “ID SET” appears. The remote sequence differs by model; the soundbar’s manual is the authority if the controls below do not match yours.
Before using ID SET, check whether automatic pairing worked
Samsung soundbars and their included wireless components are generally factory-coded to connect automatically when powered on. Turn on both devices and check the subwoofer’s blue LINK light. If it stops blinking and stays solid blue, the connection is established and you do not need manual pairing. Samsung recommends reconnecting manually when automatic pairing fails, after a factory reset, or after service or replacement. How to trigger ID SET
- Switch off the soundbar. Use its remote or power button. Leave the subwoofer or wireless receiver powered on.
- Put the subwoofer into pairing mode. Find the recessed ID SET button on its rear panel. Use a small pointed object to press and hold it until the STANDBY indicator turns off and the blue LINK light blinks rapidly.
- Send the ID SET command from the soundbar. With the soundbar still off, use the remote sequence for your model: Samsung’s subwoofer instructions say to hold Mute; if that does not activate ID SET, try holding Up. For rear-speaker pairing, Samsung documents holding VOL or Up for 5–6 seconds, until “ID SET” appears. Some soundbars have an ID SET button on the bar itself. - Turn the soundbar on while the component’s blue light is blinking, unless your model turns on automatically as part of pairing.
- Check the LINK light. A solid blue light means the connection is established. If it keeps blinking, pairing has not completed; turn off the soundbar and restart the process.
Why the remote sequence may differ
There is no single soundbar-remote button sequence that applies to every Samsung model. Samsung’s subwoofer guide documents Mute, with Up as a fallback; its rear-speaker guide documents VOL or Up. Some bars provide an onboard ID SET control instead. Check the manual for the exact soundbar model rather than repeatedly trying a sequence intended for a different component.
If ID SET does not connect the component
Confirm the component is in pairing mode
Start with the subwoofer or receiver’s ID SET button and wait for the blue LINK light to blink rapidly before sending the ID SET command from the soundbar. If the light is not blinking, the component may not be ready to pair.

Retry if the LINK light keeps blinking
A blinking light that does not settle to solid blue means the link has not completed. Switch the soundbar off and repeat the sequence, following the exact instructions for your model. If the controls differ from these steps or a retry still fails, use the model manual or contact Samsung Support.
Check compatibility before adding rear speakers
Optional rear-speaker kits are model-specific. Verify the exact soundbar model against the kit compatibility information or its manual before buying or diagnosing a newly added kit. Samsung’s US rear-speaker support page lists compatible models and examples of kits, including SWA-9500S, SWA-9200S, SWA-9100S, SWA-9000S, and SWA-8500S. Its list applies to the models and region shown on that page; do not assume it covers every market or soundbar.

Check receiver wiring if your kit uses a receiver
Wireless rear-speaker kits are not necessarily cable-free. Most use a wireless receiver module, with speaker wires running from the two rear speakers to that receiver. Samsung identifies the SWA-9500S as an exception: it has no receiver module, and each speaker uses a power cord. For a receiver kit, match the gray and blue plugs to their corresponding jacks and speaker labels, and ensure the bare wire—not its insulation—contacts the terminals. Follow the kit’s manual for its specific connections.
If the speakers connect but surround sound is not distinct
A successful ID SET connection does not guarantee discrete rear-channel sound. Samsung notes that a 2.0 soundbar or 2.0 audio source does not provide discrete rear channels, even if connected speakers play audio. Check the soundbar’s specifications, the source’s audio format, and the TV’s audio-format settings. These checks affect the surround experience, not whether ID SET pairing succeeds.
