To order food from Google Maps, search for the restaurant, open its place profile, and look under Overview for Order Online. Select the available ordering destination, then finish menu selection, pickup or delivery choices, payment, and checkout on the provider’s site. If the button is missing, check the restaurant’s hours and the rest of its profile for a separate Place an order link; if no Google route appears, confirm pickup or delivery with the restaurant through its official website or phone.

Google Maps is usually a directory and handoff point rather than the merchant processing your order. The ordering provider shown after you click the link normally controls the menu, service area, fees, payment, order status, changes, refunds, and support.

Where to find the Order Online button in Google Maps

Open Google Maps in the mobile app or at google.com/maps, search for the restaurant, and select the correct place profile. In the profile, open or remain on the Overview tab and look for Order Online. Google’s food-ordering help describes this as the normal entry point when an ordering provider is available for that restaurant.

Depending on the restaurant’s region and Business Profile setup, the ordering control may instead be shown as a separate Place an order link or another ordering link on the profile. Do not assume the first profile screen is the only place to look; scroll through the complete profile, including the business links and contact area. Google documents these variations in Find a restaurant to order food with Google and Manage online ordering options.

A visible menu or dish list is different from an order button. Maps can display menu items when information is available, but Google notes that not every dish is necessarily included. Menu browsing therefore does not establish that the restaurant accepts online pickup or delivery orders.

How to place an order through the standard Maps flow

  1. Search precisely. Enter the restaurant’s name and location, then verify the address, cuisine, and opening hours so you do not select a similarly named place.
  2. Open the place profile. Tap or click the restaurant’s listing rather than relying on a search-results snippet.
  3. Locate the ordering link. Under Overview, choose Order Online when it appears. If the profile has a separate Place an order link, that can be the correct route as well.
  4. Select the destination. Google’s standard documented flow redirects you to the ordering provider’s website. A profile link can also lead to the restaurant’s own ordering channel, depending on how the business configured its listing.
  5. Set the service type. On the destination site, choose pickup or delivery if both are offered. A provider may support only one of these options for that restaurant or address.
  6. Build the order. Check the current menu, item availability, modifiers, dietary information, serving sizes, and requested preparation time. Maps’ displayed dishes should not be treated as a live inventory guarantee.
  7. Review the checkout total. Confirm item prices, taxes, delivery or service fees, minimums, tip settings, discounts, estimated time, delivery area, and cancellation terms on the provider’s checkout page. Google does not define these details as universal across providers.
  8. Submit and save confirmation. Keep the confirmation number, receipt, provider name, and expected pickup or delivery time. Those details are useful if the order is delayed, incomplete, or charged incorrectly.

The provider’s checkout page is the authoritative version of the order. Prices, availability, fees, and estimated times can change after a Maps listing was last updated.

Choosing between pickup, delivery, and different order destinations

When a profile offers more than one link, choose based on who will fulfill the order and who will support it, not just on which button appears first.

Choice What to verify before paying Who normally handles the order
Pickup Pickup address, preparation time, pickup instructions, minimum order, and whether the restaurant is accepting orders now The destination shown by Maps—either the restaurant’s channel or a third-party provider
Delivery Whether your address is in the service area, delivery fee, small-order or distance surcharge, estimated arrival, and driver handoff instructions The provider or restaurant channel that accepted payment
Restaurant-direct link Whether checkout is operated by the restaurant, a payment processor, or another ordering service; review its support and cancellation terms The merchant or service identified during checkout
Third-party provider link Provider-specific menu, fees, substitutions, tracking, refund policy, and account requirements The provider shown on the destination site

Google Business Profile allows restaurants to add multiple third-party providers and custom ordering links and to set a preferred option for pickup or delivery. That configuration explains why two restaurants in the same area can show different labels or destinations. It does not guarantee that a preferred link is the cheapest, fastest, or available for every address.

Why Order Online may be missing

The restaurant has no ordering provider available on Google

Google’s official wording is: “If you don’t find ‘Order Online,’ the restaurant doesn’t have an available ordering provider on Google.” In practical terms, the listing currently has no provider connection that Google can display. The restaurant may still accept orders by phone, through its own website, or through a service that is not connected to that profile.

DoorDash Physical Gift Card
  • A huge selection fulfilling all your needs - food and more!
  • Easy ordering & real-time tracking
  • Customize your orders
  • Pickup & group order options
  • Physical gift cards are delivered active via mail.

The restaurant is closed

Google says the button may not be available while the restaurant is closed. Check the hours shown on the profile, including the day and any split service periods, and try again during stated open hours. Hours can be different for holidays or special events, so use the restaurant’s own channel when the timing is important.

Your country, language, or device is not supported

Food-ordering features are not offered in every country or language. A feature visible in one region can be absent from the same restaurant’s profile elsewhere. Language settings, account status, app version, and device eligibility can also affect conversational ordering features.

The profile uses a different link layout

Some profiles place ordering choices under Order Online; others show Place an order or another business link separately. Scroll through the profile and inspect the website and action links before concluding that no online route exists.

The restaurant changed its ordering setup

Restaurants can add, replace, designate, or remove third-party and custom ordering links in Business Profile. A provider change can leave a profile temporarily different from what you saw on a previous visit. Google’s business documentation says a request to remove a third-party link must be processed by the provider within five business days; that is a business-side processing rule, not a promise that every customer’s Maps listing will update within that period.

What to do when Maps has no ordering option

  1. Recheck the hours. If the restaurant is closed, look again when it is open. If the displayed hours look wrong, verify them through the restaurant’s official channel.
  2. Inspect the entire profile. Look for Place an order, a website button, a phone number, or ordering links outside the main Overview action.
  3. Open the restaurant’s official website. Use the site linked from the profile or the restaurant’s known official address. Look for current pickup and delivery instructions, service areas, and ordering terms.
  4. Contact the restaurant directly. Ask whether it accepts pickup or delivery orders by phone or through a specific provider, and confirm today’s menu and hours. This is a practical fallback; Google does not guarantee that every restaurant accepts direct orders.
  5. Compare the actual checkout destinations. If more than one provider is offered, compare the live menu, total cost, estimated time, service area, and cancellation policy on each destination before submitting.
  6. Save proof of the transaction. Keep the receipt, confirmation number, and destination name so you can identify the correct support channel.

The absence of a Google button means only that a Google ordering route is not currently shown for that profile. It does not prove that the restaurant has no pickup or delivery service.

Using Ask Maps for conversational food ordering

Google also documents food ordering through Ask Maps, a conversational Maps feature. You can describe what you want, select a restaurant from the results, and choose a third-party app when one is available. Google’s example prompt is Order thai food near me for dinner; another example asks for sandwiches for a work lunch for ten people with vegetarian choices. These are examples of supported phrasing, not guarantees that a matching restaurant or provider exists in your area.

Ask Maps ordering has documented limits. Google’s current help describes eligibility and availability that include the United States, an age requirement, being signed in, English-language use, and app or device limitations. Availability can change by location and account, so a conversational result should not be treated as a universal Google Maps capability.

When Ask Maps hands the request to a third-party app, that app processes payment and is the merchant for the order. The third party, rather than Google, handles order status, changes, tracking, and resolution. Review the selected app’s checkout details before confirming.

Who handles payment, refunds, and order problems?

In the standard Maps flow, you are redirected to the provider’s website to browse and place the order. Payment is made on that destination, and Google directs users to contact the provider about problems with orders placed there. For Ask Maps third-party orders, Google likewise says the third party is the merchant and handles support.

If food is late, missing, incorrect, or charged twice, open the provider’s order history or support page and provide the order number, restaurant, timestamp, and a concise description of the problem. If you used a restaurant-direct checkout, use the contact details shown on that checkout or the restaurant’s official support channel. Do not assume that Google Maps can edit, cancel, or refund an order that an outside provider accepted.

How to check that an order destination is legitimate and suitable

  • Match the restaurant. Confirm the destination displays the same restaurant name and address as the Maps profile.
  • Check the service area. A provider can list a restaurant but exclude your delivery address or offer pickup only.
  • Read the full total. Look for taxes, delivery, service, small-order, distance, packaging, and tip charges before pressing the final payment button.
  • Confirm timing. A menu may be visible even when the kitchen is not accepting orders, and an estimated time is not the same as a guarantee.
  • Review substitutions and cancellations. Find out how unavailable items, address changes, no-contact delivery, and cancellation requests are handled.
  • Save confirmation. Keep the receipt and any tracking or support link until the order is complete.

Offers, discounts, and country limits

Google has a separate food-offers feature. Its documented supported countries include Brazil, India, Japan, Mexico, and the United States. An offer shown in Maps is subject to the provider’s terms, eligibility, dates, and redemption rules, and Google redirects you to the provider’s site to complete the order. This feature is separate from whether the basic Order Online button appears, so an unavailable offer does not necessarily mean ordering is unavailable, and an available order button does not imply that an offer exists.

Read the provider’s terms at checkout: an advertised discount may apply only to selected items, a minimum subtotal, a specific service type, or a limited delivery area. The destination’s final total controls what you pay.

Common situations and the fastest response

“The restaurant is open, but there is no button.”

Scroll for a separate ordering link, then check the restaurant’s official website or phone number. Open hours alone do not create a Google ordering connection; a provider must be available on Google.

“I can see dishes, but I cannot check out.”

Use the menu as information only. Look for an order link or ask the restaurant how it accepts current orders. Google says not every dish is added to Maps, and menu display is not proof of online ordering.

“The link opens a provider, but my address is rejected.”

Check whether pickup is available, correct the address pin and unit details, and review the provider’s delivery radius. If the restaurant confirms delivery to your location, ask whether it takes direct orders or uses another provider.

“My order is late or wrong.”

Contact the provider or merchant that accepted payment, using the confirmation number. Include the exact missing or incorrect items and the promised time. Google Maps is not normally the party that can change or refund that transaction.

“A provider link disappeared after I used it before.”

Check whether the restaurant is closed, whether the profile now shows a different link layout, and whether the provider or restaurant changed its Business Profile configuration. Confirm current ordering options directly with the restaurant if the change persists.

Google’s interfaces and partnerships can vary by restaurant, region, language, account, and device. Use the live provider checkout and the restaurant’s own confirmation as the final authority for whether you can order, what it will cost, and who will resolve a problem.
