The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 Aura Edition’s base cover is removable for documented service, and its practical user upgrade is the SSD. Lenovo specifies one M.2 2280 SSD slot, with supported configurations up to 2TB; the memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded after purchase. Before opening the laptop
Use the Lenovo Hardware Maintenance Manual for the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14. It includes procedures for the base cover, built-in battery, and M.2 SSD, along with electrical-safety and electrostatic-discharge guidance. Read its “Before hardware replacement” and safety sections before starting, and follow the exact instructions for your machine.

Replacing or upgrading the SSD
Lenovo specifies a single M.2 2280 storage slot and lists NVMe SSDs in PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 5.0 configurations. Its current model-family offerings go up to 2TB; that figure describes Lenovo’s listed configurations, not a guarantee that every third-party drive or capacity is compatible.

Before buying, check that the replacement is an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD, compare its PCIe generation and capacity with your needs, and confirm compatibility for the exact machine type. Interface generation alone does not establish real-world transfer speed; the drive and system configuration also matter. Follow Lenovo’s manual for removal and installation.
Memory cannot be upgraded
The PSREF states that memory is soldered to the system board, has no slots, and is not upgradeable. There is no SO-DIMM slot for adding or swapping RAM. If the system board requires repair, use qualified service rather than treating the memory as a removable module.
