To obtain an IP address associated with the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), your internet traffic must exit through an FSM network. If you are in the country, connect through a local internet provider and check the resulting public IP. If you are elsewhere, you need a VPN or proxy with a genuine FSM endpoint—not simply any VPN. An IPinfo country listing checked on October 7, 2026, showed no VPN exit nodes in the FSM, so a consumer remote option is not verified.
What “Micronesian IP address” means
This guide uses “Micronesian” to mean the Federated States of Micronesia, not the wider Micronesia region. The FSM consists of Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap. The U.S. Department of State’s FSM travel guidance covers the country and its four states.
An IP address is not a guarantee of physical location. Websites and IP-geolocation databases infer location from network allocation and routing information, and their classifications can differ. The IANA record for the .fm domain identifies the FSM and names FSM Telecommunications Corporation as the domain manager; it does not prove that a particular IP address will be classified as FSM-based. A .fm website or domain does not make your connection appear to originate there.

FSM Telecommunications Corporation lists residential, wireless, business, and dedicated internet services. Availability depends on the specific location, so confirm coverage and current terms with the provider for the island and address where you will connect. Its service listings do not promise a particular public IPv4 or IPv6 address, or a particular result in geolocation databases.

After connecting, look up your public IP and check how it is classified. If the location matters for a particular website or app, test that service directly; an IP lookup result alone cannot guarantee that the service will treat the connection as being in the FSM.
If you are outside the FSM, verify the endpoint before subscribing
A VPN or proxy changes the visible exit location only when it routes your traffic through an endpoint in the country you need. A VPN connection by itself does not provide an FSM IP: the endpoint must actually be in the FSM, rather than a nearby country or a location label that does not reflect the network exit.

The IPinfo Micronesia country listing, checked October 7, 2026, showed no VPN exit nodes in the FSM. That listing is a snapshot, not an exhaustive audit of every provider, and it does not establish that no provider offers an endpoint. Before paying, ask the provider specifically whether it currently offers a real exit endpoint in the Federated States of Micronesia. Confirm the endpoint location, then test the resulting IP and the target service.
Verify your public IP and the service you need
- Connect to the local internet service or the VPN/proxy endpoint you intend to use.
- Check your public IP with an IP lookup service and note the reported country. Geolocation results can differ between databases.
- Open the website or app that requires an FSM location and test the feature you need. A country label in one lookup is not proof that another service will accept the IP as FSM-based.
Travel security is a separate question
The U.S. Department of State’s FSM travel guidance says, “Use reputable, U.S.-based VPN or VoIP applications,” and advises against connecting to public Wi-Fi. This is security guidance, not confirmation that any recommended VPN has an FSM exit endpoint. Check endpoint availability separately if your goal is an FSM IP.

What country-level connectivity figures can—and cannot—tell you
Internet Society Pulse’s Country Report for Micronesia provides context about the FSM’s network environment. Its indicators are country-level figures, not a prediction of performance at a particular address or on a particular island.

The report lists FSM Telecommunications Corporation and SpaceX Starlink among its top internet service providers by market share. That does not establish that an individual customer of either service receives a public IP that geolocation services classify as FSM-based.

What to confirm with a provider
- For a local connection: whether service is available at your exact location and what current plan terms apply.
- For a remote VPN or proxy: whether the provider currently operates a genuine FSM exit endpoint, rather than an endpoint in a neighboring country.
- For either option: how the public IP is classified by the lookup tools and services relevant to your use case.
