You can usually move contacts to a minimalist phone by syncing an account or importing a VCF/vCard file, but photos need their own transfer route and message-history support depends on the exact destination model. Before resetting your old phone, confirm that contacts and any other files you need have arrived—and check the maker’s instructions for SMS, MMS, iMessage, or RCS.
Before you start: check where your data is stored
Contacts may be saved on the phone, in iCloud, Google or Outlook, or on a SIM card. Photos may be local or stored in a cloud library. Messages are a separate case: support for moving a full history is not established by the contact and photo instructions covered here.
- Identify the account or location holding your contacts and photos.
- Check the destination phone maker’s current transfer instructions for each data type.
- Keep the old phone intact until you have checked the results on the new one.
Move contacts to the minimalist phone
VCF, also called vCard, is a common contact-file format. The destination’s import workflow matters: a file that can be exported from an account still needs to be accepted and imported by the new phone.

- Open the Light Phone Dashboard and go to Phone > Contacts > Import Contacts.
- For iCloud, follow Light Phone’s guide to connect using an Apple app-specific password, or export contacts from iCloud as a vCard and upload the resulting
.vcffile. - For Google, export contacts as a vCard/VCF from Google Contacts and upload the file in the Dashboard.
- Let the phone sync. Light Phone says the default sync interval is every four hours; its settings can also trigger an immediate sync.
Light Phone states, “There is currently no way to import contacts via a SIM card.” See its contact import guide for the documented process.

Mudita Kompakt
- Connect the Kompakt to a computer and open Mudita Center.
- Choose whether to import selected contacts or all contacts from Google or Outlook, or upload a CSV or vCard file exported from Outlook, Google, or iCloud.
- Keep the phone connected while the import runs.
Mudita documents these options in its Kompakt contact import instructions. After either import, check several contacts for names, phone numbers, and any fields you rely on; the guides do not specify that every custom field will map identically.
Move photos separately
Do not assume contacts, photos, and messages transfer together. The documented Mudita Kompakt photo route uses a computer and image files; it does not establish a direct phone-to-phone migration or cloud-library sync.

Upload photos to Mudita Kompakt
- Connect the Kompakt to a computer and open Mudita Center.
- Choose Your Kompakt > Manage Files > Photos.
- Click Add file, select the images, and confirm.
See Mudita’s photo upload instructions. For another minimalist phone, verify its own supported photo workflow rather than assuming this route applies.
If your iPhone photos are in iCloud
Google distinguishes photos and videos stored on the iPhone from those in iCloud. Its iPhone-to-Android instructions say to request a copy of iCloud photos and videos through privacy.apple.com, then upload that copy to the Google Account. This is general Android guidance, not proof that the same process transfers files to every minimalist phone. Check the destination’s instructions before relying on it.

Check message-history support before switching
Do not count on SMS, MMS, iMessage, RCS, or a complete message history moving unless the maker documents an import process for your exact destination model. The cited Light Phone and Mudita instructions cover contacts and, for Mudita, photos; they do not establish a message-history import path. That does not prove that no minimalist phone supports message migration—it means support must be checked model by model.
For context, Google’s standard iPhone-to-Android setup guidance says to turn off iMessage and describes data that may not transfer through normal setup. Its broader switching guidance lists selected message-transfer categories and separate handling for some data. Those are Android platform instructions, not evidence that a particular minimalist phone supports the same transfer. Consult the phone maker’s current support material before you switch.

Use a cable only if the destination supports that method
Google’s iPhone-to-Android help describes wired copying with the iPhone’s charging cable and says an adapter may be needed if the connectors do not fit both phones. That advice applies only when the destination supports the relevant transfer process. Check the exact model’s supported method, both phones’ ports, and any adapter requirement before buying or connecting a cable; USB-C by itself does not guarantee compatibility.

- Open representative contacts on the new phone and check names and numbers.
- Confirm the destination has finished importing or syncing. Light Phone documents a manual immediate-sync option; Mudita says to keep the phone connected during import.
- Open transferred images on the destination and confirm they are the files you intended to keep.
- Check the maker’s documentation for message-history support before assuming old conversations will appear.
- Only reset, trade in, or erase the old phone after you have confirmed the data you need is available elsewhere.
