Use Huawei’s Phone Clone app to transfer data directly from your old Android phone to your new Huawei phone. Set Huawei as the new device, pair the phones using the app’s QR-code or manual connection flow, then select the categories Phone Clone offers—including contacts, photos, and messages when available.
Before you start
Charge both phones, install or update Phone Clone as prompted, and back up important data. Check the current Phone Clone listing in AppGallery for Android compatibility; an older Huawei article cites Android 4.4 or later, but that historical minimum should not be treated as a current requirement for every device. Huawei’s current support guide directs users to AppGallery for compatibility information, while the older threshold appears in its earlier transfer article.
Review any overwrite warning shown on the Huawei phone before proceeding. Huawei’s Saudi support page warns that cloning can overwrite some existing destination data, including chat apps, Weather, and home-screen settings, for the Pura 80 models listed there. That warning is specific to those products; follow the prompt on your own phone rather than assuming the same behavior applies to every Huawei model. Huawei’s regional instructions describe the warning.
How to transfer data with Phone Clone
- On the Huawei phone: Open Phone Clone. If you cannot find it, go to Settings > System & updates > Phone Clone. Choose This is the new device, then select Huawei or Other Android to identify the old phone.
- On the old Android phone: Install and open Phone Clone, then choose This is the old device.
- Connect the phones by scanning the code shown on the Huawei phone or following Phone Clone’s manual connection instructions.
- On the Android phone, select the data categories Phone Clone displays. Check that the categories you want—such as contacts, photos, or messages—are available, then start the transfer.
- Keep the phones near each other and follow the prompts on both screens until Phone Clone indicates the transfer is complete.

Does Phone Clone need Wi-Fi or mobile data?
Huawei says Phone Clone connects the two phones wirelessly and does not require a WLAN connection or mobile data for the transfer. Follow the in-app connection flow; the wireless phone-to-phone link is not the same as using your home Wi-Fi network. Huawei describes the connection as private and encrypted, but that is the company’s security claim, not an independent security test. Huawei’s Phone Clone page explains its stated connection method.
Can Phone Clone move contacts, photos, and messages?
Huawei’s materials list contacts and images among basic data that can be moved. Its global Phone Clone page also names messages and call records. The exact categories available depend on the phones and software involved, so use the selection screen on your own devices as the practical check.

- Contacts: Listed in Huawei’s current support instructions.
- Photos: Huawei calls these images in its current guide; its product page also lists photos and videos.
- Messages: Named on Huawei’s Phone Clone page, and text and multimedia messages appear in a detailed older Huawei guide. Since that detailed list is roughly ten years old, confirm message categories in the app rather than assuming every current Android-to-Huawei pairing supports them.
Supported categories can vary with the source Android version, Phone Clone version, destination model, and region. An app appearing in the transfer list does not guarantee that all of its private data will transfer. Huawei’s current product page lists messages and call records; its older detailed guide describes a broader set of data types.
How long does the transfer take?
Transfer time depends on the data selected and the phones and connection conditions, so there is no reliable duration to promise for a particular migration. Huawei advertises speeds of “up to 8 GB per minute” on its global page, but notes that the page animation does not represent real user experience. Treat that as a vendor claim, not an expected or independently measured transfer rate. Huawei’s Phone Clone page includes the qualification.

If a category is missing or the transfer does not finish
- Check that both phones are running Phone Clone and that the Huawei phone is set as the new device while Android is set as the old device.
- Use the connection method presented in the app, and keep the phones close together while the transfer runs.
- If the expected data category is not shown, do not assume it will transfer through Phone Clone on that device combination. Check for app updates and consult the compatibility information in AppGallery.
- If the Huawei phone displays an overwrite warning, review it before continuing and make sure important destination data is backed up.
